Keep all fingers and paws crossed!!!!

Well, like I said on Millie's tribute on Rainbow bridge the other day, it didn't work out with that particular Boxer. I asked the rescue if she'd been spayed, that was our only stipulation, and they never got back to us after that, so I presume she hadn't, or that they had already rehomed her.

My search continued, and I saw a beautiful 7 year old Brindle and white girl on another rescue site called Ruby

We were smitten, she is HUGE, seriously, her head looks like a St Bernard! She is so gentle and placid, reminds me of that big ole dog in the Peter Pan story!..Anyways, I emailed the rescue, and spoke to a really lovely lady who answered all my questions, and turns out she needs to be rehomed with her son 5 year old Desmond (love his name) who is being fostered a long way away in the north. The lady I spoke to is fostering Ruby, and said how good she is, and how she was tempted to keep her herself, but she badly needs her son Desmond, as they are both suffering separation anxiety from being apart..She asked if we would be willing to take the two of them..OMG! What could I do, they are such a pair of sweeties...We decided to go for it, we so much want to help and reunite them...Never owned a male Boxer, and he is massive! But we have loads of love to give, and want to help the rescues. Home visit tomorrow, two weeks to the day after our Beautiful Millie died..fingers crossed that all goes well, but worried they might think our semi is too small for such large dogs..Nice big secure garden, so OK there, just need to wait and see!! Keep your fingers crossed for us..we may have TWO snuggle bugs for Xmas!!! I know Millie and Poppy are sorting all this out from up there at the bridge!

I am a firm believer in that you don't always get the dog you want but you always get the dog you need. In your case I guess it would be DOGS!
This is turning into a beautiful story and I am happy you are sharing your journey with us.
Can't wait to hear the next chapter!!

Helen, I have kept in mind your Mum's quote, the one you told me, about what is meant for you won't pass you by...I really liked that saying, and have been repeating it like a mantra!!

I KNOW that we will get a Boxer from this rescue, I have been talking to the lady from there daily, and she really wants to help. She has been sending me pictures of Ruby (or RubyRoo Boxer as I would call her!) via FB, and we have been chatting about all things Boxer. I know she wants us to be successful with these two, and end up giving them the forever home they so deserve. If the home check lady approves us fabulous, but if not, I badly want these two to go to a wonderful forever home, no matter how disappointed we would be. It's their welfare that comes first.

If we do get them, because the rescue is in the north, and that's where Desmond is being fostered, it will be a mission of love by all the wonderful people that volunteer. The journey all the way down here will be done in stages, like a military operation, with each volunteer taking him on one leg of the journey, then passing him on to the next, and so on till he arrives down here..How fabulous are these people that do it all just for the love of our breed? RubyRoo doesn't have as far to come, but I think that they'll let the two of them meet up again before they'd let them loose in here..Can you imagine the scene, they've not seen each other for nearly 2 months..It'll be chaos!

I have been getting updates from Desmond's foster dad, and pictures showing how he won't go to sleep unless he has his teddy bear and blanket!!..Too cute, he's such a big lump, and has to have his teddy!!

Everyone has been saying how we are either mad or brave to contemplate taking them on, but we think different. Poppy and Millie Boxer have given us so much love, and we in turn adored them, they have been our life. The way our beautiful Millie died was awful, and we feel that by opening our hearts, arms and home to two Boxers that need us we will somehow be repaying our two for the lifetime of love they both gave us, and maybe that some good will come out of Millie's awful death.

Tomorrow, when the home check is done, is 2 weeks to the day that we lost Millie Boxer..Only two weeks, and it seems like a lifetime ago that she was last here with us. We miss her so, and not a day goes by that my heart doesn't yearn for her, and I cry...I still sing all those silly songs to her, even though she cant hear me any more :(..But as I keep saying, I really think that she's got a paw in all this, and is shaping our destiny from up there at the Bridge...She will make sure that whatever happens will be right for us, or as Helen's Mum says, 'what is meant for you won't pass you by'

Yes indeed the people that foster and do the volunteer work are unreal,I take my hat off to them ,it takes a special sort of person to do this and im sure that they will get their reward in heaven.

Ruby and Desmond sound fantastic and if all turns out well will more than likely turn your home into a mad house for a while ,there is qiute a difference between having 1 and 2 boxers ,I look after my parents Boxer (Roge,s brother ) when they go on holiday and while I love having him come to stay I hate sending him home when they return. Every time I ask the same question " Are you sure you want him back " Its double the work and double the fun and you dont have to be mad or brave ,all you need is a good heart.

I can only imagine the excitement when they are reunited , If I was there I would be in tears.

Ohhh I so hope this works out for you and your Husband and I have a good feeling that it just might.
Your Girls at the Bridge are doing a good job and I am sure that they will continue to do so.

I so hope this works out for you - amazing where life's journey takes each of us. I will say I didn't think I wanted a boy - no good reason, but got that in my head. I found a girl with our local rescue that I wanted bad...but they would not allow because I already had Roxy (I appreciate this now). Anyway, I happened to meet a young boy they had with a foster and after several visits I was striken. After the home visit, he came into our family. He is the complete opposite of Roxy - but he is a complete charmer and cuddlier. I have really enjoyed the different personalities and the tendencies that are best explained with "because he is a boy". I'm thankful every day that our paths crossed and we have a bouncing brindle boy! (And have enjoyed having 2 boxers in the family - expect when they both eat something that produces extra gas). Fingers and paws crossed for a happy outcome.

Had the homecheck last night. soooo nerve racking, I had verbal diarrhea, and kept the poor lady for 2 hours talking of all things Boxer, all about Millie Boxer, and Poppy..Jeez, I even got all the photo's out, like a proud Mum, boring the visitors!...I know she thought I was a little mad! Sleepless night followed, and when finally at 5am I dropped off to sleep, all my dreams were Boxer shaped!:D

9am, and THE phone call came.....We have been approved, they know we will absolutley love the pair of them to bits, and give them the best we can, and a home that means forever..So now are now the proud parents of two!!!...My lovely RubyRoo and Desmond are coming home next weekend, in time for Xmas!
Millie and Poppy had it all worked out, and have given us back some Boxer love as a Xmas present!..How lucky are we?!
