Smile detector camera?

Anyone seen one of these things yet? I was at a birthday party last weekend and my niece had one. I believe it was a Sony. Basically you can turn on the "smile detector" and the camera will take a picture automatically when you subject, or subjects smile. I had to try it out, and was pretty amazed that it really seemed to work. I was a little freaked out by the thing, too. It was pretty quick to snap pictures as soon as it detected the smile. These new cameras do everything. It is getting to the point that people will not actually know how to take pictures anymore. I handed my digital SLR to my friends teenage son to snap a pic of us, it was all set up-just had to press the button. He was dumbfounded that he had to look through the viewfinder. He had never seen such a thing! He told me I really needed to update! Yikes, another one of those "i'm getting old" moments.

I have a Sony Camera that has the smile detector. It does seem to work. I don't take people pictures much, so I haven't used that feature very much. Now if they had something that would take dog pictures at the right moment. That would be really worth something.

Sounds like a good idea to me - although it would be a waste of money in my house. I have the teenage daughter whose smile is an endangered species around her family!!

My Nikon Coolpix S620 has that smile mode too
It does work well, much better than the subject tracking mode that allows you to lock focus on a specific person so the camera will follow their movement.
