Hi folks:

My Boxer, Ozzie, who is now almost six years old, has a little pink bump on his neck just about where his collars goes...

The lump is a pale pink color, and it's about the size of a pencil eraser.

Anyone have any experience with something like this?

Any suggestions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Bob.

Hi Bob, I'm no expert but Rocky had a histiocytoma (benign tumor) come up last year on his leg that looked a lot like you describe. If that's the case, they will usually go away on their own. However, boxers are also prone to Mast Cell tumors and they can be much worse. I would highly recommend you have your vet look at it as soon as possible, just in case. Rocky's vet removed the bump as the only way to determine whether it is cancerous is to biopsy it.

Thanks for the reply. We're going into the vet. this afternoon so they can have a look-see. Hopefully it's nothing to worry about.

Addy had a tumor removed from her face on Mon and the result came back today and all is negative. These boxers and tumors sure make me nervous...Hang in there!!!

We had the lump checked out. The vet. stuck a needle in it....she thinks it's not a bad thing....there was not one mast cell; certainly good news there.

To play it safe, we're going to have it removed Wednesday.

My next question: Do you guys think he'll have to wear an Elizabethan collar? (Ozzie hates those things and so does the person that he owns).

Glad to hear everything looks good!

Due to the location, I wouldn't think so but that would be up to the vet and Ozzie's tendencies to scratch. Rocky managed to tear his stitches out when he had his spot removed from his leg but that was from my inability to keep him inactive. He never chewed at them, he just wouldn't stay still - just not in his nature. We let it heal as an open wound and it did fine. Not you can barely even make out a scar...
