Small bumps/lumps

Okay I need some advice.
Striker has a bunch of little bumps on his back. Not a whole lot. You don't really notice them unless he is outside and the sun hits him a certain way. If I pet his back it's relatively smooth, but small bumps. He's had a couple larger ones, that make his hair stick up a bit, but they always go away within a week. We were thinking maybe they were mosquito bites or something. I'm thinking that since he has short hair you just notice everything. And I don't really have the money to run to the vet every week to have one checked out. But I don't want to jeopardize his health either. It's scary to read stuff like the sudden death post, about the 10-month old boxer, when Striker is standing next to me with his head on my lap looking up at me like a cutie.

What do you think??

Sergeant sometimes has lumps that make his coat stick up when he is, or has been, outside. They are caused by pesky flies that won't let him alone! If they are large I put a dab of itch remover on, ( I make sure that it is in a place that he can't reach to lick). They usually go within an hour, he has never had one that stays very long. If they stay nearly a week I don't think it would be flies or mosquitos.

I don't really know but I would say to watch them carefully for any changes. If they go away within a week, I would assume there fine. If they stay the same or get worse within the course of two weeks, it's probably a good idea to get them checked out.
(You've probably thought of all this already, but it never hurts to hear someone else say it)!

This is the same as the human rule that I've heard --give it two weeks and if it's not better by then, have it checked out.

I would suspect that they are bites of some kind. As long as they go away within a short period of time, I wouldn't worry about it.

I figured the same thing.
Well I feel kinda stupid that I didn't think about this, but.....
This week, Striker had rolled around in groundhog poop with his friends about 3 times, 3 different days....so he has had about 3 baths, with human shampoo (his was left at my parents house). I spoke to my boyfriend and he thinks it's because of that, so I realized that's what it was, and stopped worrying. I also called the vet, and they said it was an allergic reaction to the shampoo and just to wash him down with warm water to make sure it's all off. Needless to say, I will be buying more shampoo if I don't go to my parents house this weekend! I ALWAYS used dog shampoo, because I knew it was bad to use ours, but I had no choice. He was STINKY.

Big relief. I must admit I get scared of the lumps after hearing all the bad cancer stories!! But he never has any that have stayed for more than a few days.

By the way, what products do you use for bites? The itch remover?

The itch remover that I have I got in Australia when we were there a few years ago. It is called 'skeeter stik' insect bite relief. Although I bought it in Australia it is made in U.S.A. by Outdoor Recreation Products Inc. The main ingredient is ISO-PROPYL ALCOHOL 45.5% and has a base of P?GLYCOL whatever that is. It works for us and Sergeant.

harley has bumps now also. but they seem to be under the skin. at first it was just one...now there are more in different places.
he is also having very stinky ears. :( i just called the vet and will take him in around 2 pm. hope my baby is ok. i am worried about his ears but the bumps are really worrying me!

I have a 13 week old boxer and I discovered this weekend that she had red bumps all over her body. They were in her ears, and on her back (where her hair layed funny)Well, I immediatley called the vet and they told me she must have been in contact with something she was allergic to. They told me to give her 1/2 a dose of adult Benadryl. It has been 4 days now and it's all cleared up. The only thing we can think of is we had our carpets cleaned this weekend, she might have been alergic to something in the carpet shampoo...

Keep the adult Benadryl around just in case. I had the same situation with my Katie. Then a few months later she broke out very badly again. Only it didn't want to go away. Turns out that she developed an allergy to her food. The vet advised me to change her food, and to continue giving her benadryl until she stopped breaking out. She's just fine now, but I keep the benadryl around just in case.

Ethel gets those when the temperature is hotter than usual. One of the vets we had, while traveling through the desert and she got them ,said to give her 1/2 of a benadryl tablet. I'ld ask your vet. I didn't feel comfortable about the pill while on vacation so I walked Ethel into a campsite bathroom and sat her in the shower with cold water. It eventually went away. Another boxer we know was bitten by ants sunning in their backyard and had those funny bumps all over her. They put something just called "LOTION" on her. You can buy it at Petco. Its like septicide? or something like that.
I'ld just watch for it getting worse, so she doesn't have breathing problems or swell up.
