sleeping on the bed...

I have had my male boxer I adopted for over a year now, and I just recently adopted the SWEETEST little girl that was also mistreated. I love them both and I couldn't ask for better boxers, but the only problem is the sleeping arrangment!!

Before I adopted my little girl, Otis, my male would sleep with me on my bed, this worked out fine, he had is spot, and I had mine. Now that I got Zoe the girl, the bed is crowded!! It is a queen size bed, but it sure doesn't feel like one.

My problem is Zoe isn't quite housebroken yet.. She is really good when I am home and I can watch her, but I don't feel confident leaving her alone because she has had accidents when no one is home, so she is crated when I am gone and fine about that.

I am not sure how to practically "kick" them off the bed. And I have to have Zoe close by, usually tied to my arm so when she needs to go I will feel her get up since she won't cry like my male does when he needs to go out. Does anyone have any suggestions on getting them to sleep on their own dog beds?? Whenever I have tried to kick them off they just jump right back up when it's time to go to bed. I know I should have not let them sleep there in the first place, but now I need help with my ignorance. Anything would be most helpful!!

I'm not sure how old your new little girl is, but my suggestion would be to let your male still sleep with you and have your girl sleep in her crate for a while until she is housebroken and trustworthy. It's next to impossible to get any sleep if you have to worry about your pup getting up and getting into mischeif. If she is young and not able to hold her potty all night, set your alarm to wake you up in the middle of the night to get up and let her out.

This is what we do, but I no longer need to let Stella out in the middle of the night. Chewy sleeps with us on our Cal King bed, and yes, it's a little cozy, and Stella sleeps in her crate in another room. Works perfectly. Eventually she'll get to sleep in our room - maybe in another 6 months or so.

Not sure if this will help, but let me give this a shot...

When we got Nikki, she was 3 mos old, and she was allowed to go on the furniture at our old residence. About 9 months ago, we moved to a new area, new home, new furniture and we promised ourselves to make a correction to teach her that she is no longer allowed on the furniture once we move. We knew it was wrong for us to allow her to do this in the first place. It took about a month, but with a lot of consistency, and each time she tried to go on the furniture, she would always get a stern "OFF" or "NO". Now she doesn't go on furniture anymore.

I'm thinking maybe you need to do something like this. And, maybe purchasing them new beds to let them know those are theirs, and your bed is yours. Washing your sheets to remove their scent may also help them see they're not allowed on it anymore. This is going to be tough especially since Otis has gotten used to sleeping next to you, but if you keep with the consistency, and even though it might take a while, I'm sure he'll learn.
