sleeping arrangements..))

hey all, i thought id run this by and maybe get some imput from you all.
we currently have a pair of miniture pinchers, (reds) lucky, and penni. they have been part of the family for seven and eight years. beautiful dogs..!! we have turned our garage into their room, for sleeping and should we leave for a time, they stay there.

we have just brought home Nash. a beautiful seven week old brindle, with black mask and white markings. 10.3 lbs and just beautiful. the meet and great with the min-pins went very well. the mins are use to having doggie friends visit quit a bit, and have excepted Nash into their home.

now, down with the question.... first of all, crate training is coming along real good. with feedings and/or relax time four times a day with the door locked. nash is getting use to it slowly, but surely. however, nash and the min-pins have been sleeping together with great success in the min-pins bed. thus nash is not sleeping in the crate. as i said the garage is the dog room, and very dog friendly, and feel nash is getting well adjusted to his new surroundings.
so.... what are your feelings? is there a true need to crate train nash considering our garage is like a large crate.

I would still crate train him because you never know when the situation will arise when he will need to be crated/kenneled (if he has to spend a day/night at the vet, for example). But no, he doesn't really need to sleep in the crate to accomplish that... just continue putting him in there a few times during the day and getting him comfortable with being in the crate - but ultimately, it's fine if he sleeps elsewhere, if that's what you're okay with.

Roge has slept with Spike (terrier) since he came to us at 8 wks. there has been occasion tho when Spike wont let him into bed ( he is getting old and grumpy .) but Roge at 80lbs does tend to sit on him so I can see where hes coming from, they have had a bed each but they both end up curled up together.
I would get Nash used to using the crate as I agree with what whiskers said.

sleeping

hey all, just an udate. Nash is doing really well with the sleeping, ha along with the min-pins doing as well. they seem to have formed a great bond. Also, Nash at 11 weeks is finally going to his crate and chilling on his own. We are so happy he has accepted this.

We are in our second week of Puppy class with great success, other than "down." we just cant get him to lay down.. hahaha. im sure it will come in time. if anyone has any ideas, please advise.

Would also like to comment..... KEEPING YOUR COOL, BEING CALM, NOT RAISING YOUR VOICE MEANS ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD.!!! CANT STRESS THIS ENOUGH.
