Ok! Second day home, Cybe is very relaxed now, mommy is always with him when he wakes up... But he sleeps ALL day and NIGHT! Wakes up to potty, goes back to sleep, wakes up to eat, immediately back to sleep... (he's not crying that much now)
OK I was told that he was the laziest one of 8! And I know babies especially so young sleep a lot... (almost 6 weeks old) Is it OK to sleep constantly? He wakes up many times, asks for company, as soon as he sees me he gets back to sleep. Actually I wonder what will happen when I decide to go out and he won't find me next to him... also does he need any exercise? Should I wake him up and play more with him? Maybe this way he'll sleep more at nights and wake up less times! It seemed ok last night when I took him to the papers only once... the other 3-4 times he woke up, he stopped after a while... (sleeping next to me for first two nights - hoped I didn't have to get up!) It's still difficult for him to walk! Especially on marbles! Do all these sound ok?

Sleeping

Sounds like you got this puppy awfully early. But no sense looking backwards. When I got my second pup she was 8 weeks and slept alot so I would imagine that at less than 6 weeks she will really be sleeping alot but I would contact my vet to make sure he thinks this is normal. We let our 2 pups sleep in the bed with us! Jeannie

oh I get so jealous!

Thank you Jeannie
I get so jealous about sleeping with the pup but I've made up my mind and I'll TRY to train him to sleep on his own. The pup is in excellant condition (the vet gave him a check up yesterday), today did EVERYTHING a lot. He ate more, slept more, played alot, (ok! 15 min!) His mood is in great shape, though I discovered he get's really upset and scratches the wall in a part where he sees a reflexion of himself! I felt so sorry for the pour pup missing his litermates... (I covered all the surfaces with coloured paper so it will stop reminding him) The only thing he did less is cried (untill now though). I guess it's allright with his sleeping but I need to hear somebody else telling me that also! from his own experience. Thanx!

Jeannie is right and you really did get your puppy too young! Puppies should stay with the rest of the litter until 8 weeks. What is his name?

Your puppy has missed out on a very important socialization time with his littermates where they learn bite inhibition and how to play nicely with their littermates. It is going to very important that you teach him how to soft bite and make sure you take him to puppy school where he will learn to play with other puppies his size.

It is very normal for puppies to sleep a lot. Adult dogs actually sleep about 70 % of the time.

Good luck with your puppy.

puppy in good shape

Thank you Jan
My boy's name is Cybe
Now he's little we call him Cybie some times...
I was worried and concerned about his age and got into lot's of reading which seems turned out good. Baby goes most of the time to the paper to potty in two days time training (he's restricted in small room until he gets vaccinated and can go out). he has good appetite, drinks water (food tasted only :) ) He's playful when he wakes up, doesn’t cry at night, sleeps on his own, been to the vet, he's a good healthy pup!
We also train him not to bite us but his toys and we ignore him or pretend to hurt when he bight our feet or hands and he has already stopped that more or less. Any other suggestions? I really need to make a good start
Thanks again

So at 8 weeks it is good to sleep alot. ok. My puppy is 8 weeks and she sleeps alot, and I mean alot. But, when I get her up to go for a little walk, it is trouble to get her to walk, she does not want to get her but up off the ground, and she constanlty fights with it. She never wants to play. So Im ver very very worried. I want to play with her so much, but she does not, and Im so scared, Im taking her to the Vet on Monday, and I just picked her up on wed night. Oh and by the way her name is Hunnie.

I think you shouldn't be worried about Hunnie

Actually I posted this post when Cybe was 5 weeks old! First of all (as I was worried too) it takes a couple of days or more for the baby to feel better and relaxed to his new place. Cybe wouldn't play also in the beginning (he wouldn't even walk!). And then when I started getting him out at 8 weeks... it was good I read some articles before, about the first time on a leash or some problems other had with their 81/2 weeks puppy and I was patient and relaxed when Cybe wouldn't follow or was a bit upset with the leash. Anyway, I'm potty training him now so it is quite good that still he won't enjoy a walk... he will "do his business" in a specific spot and cry to come back at his familiar place. I read somewhere that getting the dog out (of his bed/crate/etc) during his first weeks is only for training, going potty, eating, drinking and exercising. Of course I do play him a lot but then it's true! he doesn't really appreciate a "good boy" praise. Anyway, don't be worried, Hunnie will play enough later (though now that they're little they're soooo cute).
Don't worry!

Does anybody want to trade? Not that I really would! But our 8 week old puppy otis just wont quit. All he wants is to play, play, play, and then play some more. I could really use some sleep right now. I know he probably sleeps most of the day when he is in his crate but when you let him out he's like a freight train. He will honestly play for 3 or 4 hours straight.
