The weirdest thing happened this weekend with Kizer, our 4 month old boxer. We haven't been able to understand why he pees in his crate and lays directly in it. We also didn't understand why he barks, after he pees and not before. I think I know why now. Kizer was sleeping on me while I was asleep in the chair Saturday. My leg became hot and I woke up, he was asleep so I didn't think anything of it. I lifted him up to see that I was covered in pee, he is still asleep and it is coming out of him in little drips. He immediately woke up and began to shake because he was scared he did something wrong. I couldn't get mad, he was dead asleep when he did it. Has anyone heard of this before?

Harley peed once while he was laying down. This was while he was on an antibiotic which contained a steroid. Is your pup on any sort of medication????
I'd see your vet for any possible medical problems if he is not on medication.

I would have a vet check - could be some type of infection or other medical problem. I don't think that's typical for a 4 month puppy, so it's better to be on the safe side and have the vet check it out.

He is going tomorrow night, soonest we could get in. I hope it is just maybe a UTI, and some meds will clear it up. I feel bad because I have been upset with him for peeing so much in his cage, but after Saturday, I don't know if he even realizes what is going on???

The same thing happened to my boxer, Conker, when he was about 5 months old. He'd be asleep, would get up and there would be a little puddle where he'd been lying down. I never got mad because I knew he wasn't being naughty, he was completely unaware of what had happened. It was kind of embarrassing though when we weren't at home when it happened.

I took him to see the vet who did various tests, found nothing wrong and it went away after a few weeks. It still now occasionally happens when he's in his bed asleep - I don't think it's that uncommon. But you are doing the right thing taking him to the vets to get him checked out.

Hope this works out OK.

My Susie does this too. If she exercises a lot, plays to exhaustion and then comes in and drinks water (which she always does), she then konks out asleep and ends up peeing in her sleep. I think her whole body just relaxes so much and she sleeps so deeply that it just happens. My vet concurs since there is no medical reason for her to do this.

I have taken to restricting her water intake before bed/naps and making sure that if she is very tired and sleeping, I wake her up a couple of times and have her go pee. She always does pee when asked, and this has helped eliminate a LOT of the accidents. But of course, it does occasionally still happen. I just clean it up and don't worry about it since, as we've all noted, it isn't her fault and she wouldn't do it if she had control over it, I'm sure. I figure its my fault for either giving her too much water or not waking her up and letting her pee enough.
