Lil'MissAbby

Boxer Pal
Hi everyone! I'm new to this site and Abby is our first boxer. She is usually very good about going out and she's gotten used to walking to the door and sitting, but at night is it normal for her to wake us up every couple of hours to go out. She sleeps in her crate in the family room (which is rather close to our bedroom) and we usually take her out if she starts a huge fuss at night. She cries and licks her crate and we're worried she's might be experiencing some separation anxiety. We leave her alone in a puppy safe room while we go to work. She wakes us up at around 1am, 3am and 5am every day. My husband and I are wondering if that is normal and since we're extremely sleep deprived, we're wondering how long it'll last?!? Are we doing anything wrong?=) Any suggestions!

Rocky was the same way

Hi we went through the same things with our boy, Rocky. We bought him a bed and let him sleep at the foot of our bed. Since then he sleeps through the night. Your puppy is just scared and needs to be near you. You can do a search for similar threads and see others experience in dealing with new puppies.

Maybe.....

Doja has always slept through the night even since day one. A lot of people will say not to feed at night because of potty breaks and what not.... But I used to feed her a late snack of a cup of food or things she likes to munch.... Maybe try feeding something later to help her sleep, maybe, its worth a try.

I resently found out how lucky I was that she has always slept through the night. Since she was 6 weeks old. She does got #2 first thing when she gets up... But thats because she has food later at night

How old is your little one?

It does take awhile for them to actually be able to sleep through the night. Some people are lucky, but several of us aren't. I know where you are coming from.

Koda actually slept in our room in his crate and boy that was hard especially when he was just whining because he wanted out. Be sure that you are not letting him out just because he is whining. Be sure you don't open the crate while he is whining. Wait for him to stop, that way he doesn't learn that if he whines you let him out. Even if it's just for a few seconds, wait till then to open the door.

It took about a month to actually really get use to his crate and a few months before he actually slept through the night.

Maybe try taking his water away from him a few hours before bedtime. Koda it didn't seem to make a difference, but I know alot of people do this and it helps.

Good Luck, it will get better! ;)
