Skye met his match

[Super Boo]

First let me preface by informing everyone that my 16 mos old male, Skye, is a little bit of a bully. He likes to shove people, cats, other dogs with his nose until he gets them to run or play. He drives us and all of our other pets nuts with this and if you get after him, its playtime.

Went to the barn to see my horse Jet today. Its been pouring and muddy so Jet's been kind of cooped up. I spent a couple of hours in the barn grooming him and the dogs wandered around eating poop (eeewww). Anyway, Skye decides to start pushing and shoving Jet in the face--hoping to get him to run or play. Jet went nose to nose and started shoving Skye back. They got in a nose shoving match for about a 1/2 an hour and my horse loved it. I kept a close eye that there was no nastiness happening. As this progressed and Skye couldn't get this one to run, Skye started licking Jet all over his face, eyes and ears. Jet got a complete Boxer bath. They played like this for over an hour until my female Boo got jealous and had to give Jet kisses too.

Aww how sweet!! Skye is a really pretty name, too (we were going to name Asia that to begin with)! Sounds like Skye found a new *good* friend! :D

Asia has never been around horses, but she has been around cows (she was so scared)! I don't think she would be brave enough to bully a horse; HAHA!

That's so cute!! I can just picture that...as a matter of fact that would have been a Kodak moment! Yup...sounds like Skye has got himself a new friend!

The barn where I keep my horses lets you bring dogs, but unfortunately Harley is not good with horses. I got him as a 3 yr. old and at the time I lived at and managed a farm. He goes after them and I've never really given him a chance to get kicked and learn, I don't know if it would work. I took him to the barn with me yesterday and he stayed in the car and then I took him for a walk on the leash and he met the other dogs. The owner said that I could let him off the leash if I wanted to and then mentioned that if he went after a horse he'd have to go through the electric fence to get to it. I'd like to try it, but I'm not sure that it would really deter him. It would definitely knock him on his rear end if not completely knock him out. It would be wonderful for him if he could just control himself. The farm is way off the road and has a lot of well socialized dogs running around it. I wonder if he would learn not to go after the horses from the other dogs?

Boo has been lightly brushed with a hoof (by my horse who was telling her to "back off") and learned from this. Skye has a really strong prey drive and has learned from the herding dogs down at the barn to grab at tails. I am working on teaching him not to chase--he has to be on a leash when horses are loose. Today there were no loose horses and my horse was in his stall. My horse is also not intimidated by dogs at all and will not put up with them chasing him. He would nail Skye if Skye went after him. So I think today was a great learning experience for him--horses will not always run when you push them and they can play too

Harley bites at horses noses if they try to sniff him. I used to be able to let him loose in the barn I used to work at. The ends of the barn were fenced off for the barn dog. I could go in the stalls to clean and he would stand in the door and look. If I let my gaurd down for a minute he'd go after them though. My old boston terrier was my barn dog and he lived with me at the barn for the 5 1/2 yrs. that I had him. He had the life, he worked with me all day and was in the house all night. Poor Harley he could have a good thing going for him if he wasn't so stupid.

My mom has a horse who has all the dogs scampering to the house!!! She is around 3 and SO SPOILED!!! My dad spoiled her from the day she hit the dirt... This horse will walk up to you with her ears forward like hey I want to be petted... Then as so as she is 5 ft away she charges at you and wants to play.. She keeps all the dogs out of the fence... Mind you they have a cattle electric fence... The one that will knock you 3 or 4 feet... Due to them have alot of horses... This horse is so bad... When my mom rides her ... she will "bump" her up to trot or lope... The horse will try to reach around and bite you... Needless to say ... they love the horse... but I don't think I will be taking daisy to see her... I know Daisy can run... But the electric fence and the fact Daisy doesn't back down...

How funny! Charlie Paper LOVES going out to the barn where I keep my gelding. (The one I have in CO with me, the other is at home under Mom's watchful eye.) Teddy and Charlie love to lick and nip at each other. I'll get to the barn and put Charlie in Teddy's box stall and go to get my stuff, and when I come back, the two of them are either in a licking war, a nipping war (never to hard), or Charlie is trying to entise Teddy to chase him. (Which is difficult considering it's a barn stall.) Teddy absolutely adores Charlie and vise versa. Charlie's never very careful and will walk right behind Teddy, brushing up against his leg, but Ted never kicks, or even lifts his leg. The two of them are best buds! I'm gonna take my camera out to the barn to try and take some pictures of the two of them, because it's quite cute as well.
