Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone here has done any skijoring with their boxers?? I am planning to try this winter when (*IF*) we get enough snow. I hope to run my boxer girl Layla, terrier boy Tony and boxer x boy Luke. Should be fun/scary!! My experienced sled dog friend will be teaching me every step of the way.

I've heard of this and was thinking about it myself (just for fun).
Is there any special equipment you need to have to get yourself started??? I haven't really researched it at all as Harley is still quite young but I have seen it done before.

:D :D Dan! I just heard of this also a few months ago. It is basically skiing (cross-country) and your dog pulls you with a special harness, it is a sport rapidly growing in popularity. I heard about it the first time when watching a show on the tube about an Country Inn that offered different day long activities owners could do with their dogs and that was one of them.

Here is a good link:

Skijoring looks like a BLAST. I have a friend with Huskies who do it.

If we ever go up to Tahoe again I may try to do it, although buying the equipment just to try it would be pretty expensive!

I'd definately have Apollo wear a jacket though.

It really does look like fun, I can't recall the name of the Inn that did this, they lended equipment and all so it would be a good place to start.
Tam this was in another thread regarding winter gear I believe it was posted by Jan, I think this would be a great outfit for this sport!!

I have bought the ski gear and I'm getting the harness and line tomorrow. We have a place to run (sled dog trail that my friend uses)...now all we need is snow! Thanks for the link on the jackets. Yes, jackets and booties are a must for our short coated 'house dogs'. I think this will be a fun outdoor sport to keep me and my dogs in condition. If it goes well I'd like to enter a short race later in the winter.

Hopefully I won't be giving any updates from a hospital room in traction!:p I can't wait! It should be fun! My friend was talking about perhaps putting my 3 dogs and her 3 dogs together as a team to pull a dog sled later this winter after they know how to pull properly. What a riot that would be! Can you picture it?? A team of a brindle boxer, a white boxer cross, a white terrier cross with big Yoda ears, a chocolate lab, a black lab and a yellow lab?? ha ha! What a sight that would be!
