Size

So I have another post out but I wanted to post this one to see what everyones opinions were. So the male boxer we are getting is 7 weeks old and the seller says that he's very big for his size and biggest of the litter. The father weighted close to 100 pounds and the mother weighs around 65. Does this mean that we will have a good sized boxer? Are they any signs to watch for? Is having a big boxer a bad thing as far as health reasons? Is there anyway to tell this. The male boxer we have now is 2 yrs old and weight roughly 62 pounds. Could anyone shed some knowledge on this? Thanks...

The pups are usually representative of the sire and dam. The dam sounds to be average according to standards. The sire sounds huge! Did you see how tall he was? Weight could be due to too much food.

I get to see the father unfortunetely. The breeder did say that his chest was 3 inch wider than most. So I'm not sure what to believe...

Larger dogs do tend to have more health issues than smaller ones (especially if the size is actually excess weight, but even if it's just being big). There is more strain on things like joints and so forth.

100 lb is substantially larger than a boxer is supposed to be. Really substantially. That's more like bullmastiff size. If it is not just excess weight, then it is likely that any offspring would be similarly oversized individuals (perhaps a little less so, since the dam is closer to a normal size).

Whats is the average weight... its around 70 or 80 correct?

I believe males are @68lbs by standard but it seems most I see are 70+lbs or so.Height also plays a role.

It's hard to say what's average (there are a lot of incorrect dogs out there, some substantially larger or smaller than they're supposed to be). However, the correct weight for an adult male boxer of the correct size (per the breed standard) is around 60-75lb.

At 100lb, the dog in question is very far removed from the breed standard. Unless it is simply because of being overweight, that is an individual that should not have been used for breeding.

wow a 100lb boxer, I have to see that pic. My 14 month old girl weighed in today at 55lbs. She looked small to me so I measureed her at withers and shes 22-23" tall so guess she's in the standard.
