Okay, this may seem odd. I have been reading posts about people with dogs that are a year old or older, measuring at like 20 something inches and like 60 pounds. Sketch is 5 months...and three days...old, and he is already at 21 inches height and length, and is already at 33 lbs, measured this morning at the vet. Is my dog just HUGE, or what? Am I over feeding him? The vet says he is fine and at the perfect size and weight, but after reading some of these posts, I just don't know. I look at him and think he is too skinny, but the vet says that they are slender "muscley" dogs and that he is perfect. Answers?

that sounds pretty normal to be, rico is 7 months old and weighs about 65 lbs. and at 4 months he wieghed about 45, I hear from a lot of people who have big boxers but I mostly see boxers smaller than him, which makes me think he is part moose or something.

I think you are fine, so many boxers grow at different rates. Titus will be 6 months tomorrow weighs 50lbs and we have a 15 month old who weighs 60lbs. I think Titus weighed about 40lbs at 5 months. Neither are fat or skinny but just right. Titus parents are larger than Tucker's...which has a lot to do with it. Titus is more muscular than Tucker while Tucker is sleaker and very athletic looking. Titus will pass Tucker in height and weight within the next 2 months are so!

My brindle boy is also quite tall & muscular. We got him at age 7 mos. from a no-kill shelter who saved him from a city pound. Someone spent $ on him to crop his ears and it appears he may have been wanted for showing, as he stacked right from the get-go. But perhaps he got too big - he was already 26-1/2" tall (at the "shoulders") at 7 mos. He's now just over 27" (he'll be 3 in May). Don't know why else his owner(s) wouldn't have searched high and low if he had gotten lost, ran away, etc.

Their loss, my gain! We LUV him to death!

I apologize in advance if everyone knows this already, but have you ever seen a European Boxer? I saw my first one a few weeks ago, the owner swears he is imported, and he was significantly different from any boxer I have ever seen, quite a lot taller and more lanky but absolutely gorgeous! He would have towered over the "typical" boxer, and reminded me of a calm athlelte, self-assured and just a nice boy. Maybe yours has some of this type of gene in him.

Well Rents, I don't think you dog is off at all. My Ajax is going to be hitting the 5 month mark on Monday and he's 18ish inches tall and 34ish pounds (ie. 33.5 pounds last week). So that sounds just about right! ;)

i heard boxer puppies growth varies... Nitro just turn 5 months today and he's already 19 inches tall and 41 lbs... im not really concerned if he grows bigger than the standard since im not planning on showing him at all lol...

Willis is now 4.5 months and he is 34 lbs and 20 inches. I think they are all different. His parents were both within breed standard, so I would expect him to be the same... it think they just grow at different speeds... and willis is always on high speed for everything!!!

Having seen Sketch, I'd say he's just about perfect. Boxers grow in spurts and different parts grow at different times. Last is for them to fill out, as it were and the ribs show less.

Sketch looks quite healthy and just right for his age to me. He may be slightly bigger than standard, but I doubt that he'll be more than an inch off in height. Maggie is slightly larger than standard and Susie is (other than her tendency to be a fatty couch potato) just about standard.

As for Rider, we'll have to wait and see. :)

I wouldn't worry at all about Sketch. He's a great looking dog and will grow up just fine.
