If you foster him....I will promise to help!

I will try and get one of the Boxer Rescues in the area to help find his permanent home...I will also help you with vet fees and neutering and whatever else he needs. Every year for my baby's birthdays instead of getting them more toys (like they need more toys) I instead try and sponsor a dog that isn't as fortunate to have a wonderful loving homes like my two do, so Nickleby can be Angus' birthday present! Please let me know how I can help, it sounds like you are acclimated to the silver boxers and their needs.

What a wonderful hero you will be to Nickleby!

WHAT A FANTASTIC IDEA!! To sponser a poor boxer. That is great thing to do and I hope it catches on. Just think if 10% of the people on this board were to do the same. One dog a year or a donation to your nearest rescue organization. Think of how many dogs could be helped.

And a huge THANKYOU kiwilyme. I have not been able to get those sad and loving eyes out of my mind. Nickleby does look to be closer to 12 than eight or nine. I really doubt he has a lot of time left, but that time should be in arms of someone who will give him the love and respect he deserves. He sure doesn't deserve being dumped in a shelter. I only hope there is a special place for spineless people who would do something like this. I agree that it would have been so much more humane to put the poor dogs down rather than dump them somewhere with virtually no chance of adoption. If it weren't for the great people on the internet and rescues, these poor babies would spend their last days sleeping on cold concrete and being scared and confused.

Please keep us updated on how everything goes.

Hi MybabyRosco! If Nickleby is still there, I'll be in touch with you, ok?

Hello MybabyRosco,
I think this old boy might not have a whole lot of play left in him for your 5 mo. old Rosco, but if he is there I do plan on going and getting him b4 he gets put down. If your serious about adopting him please drop me an email at yvetteyoung@bellsouth.net.
Thank you Leezah for your generous offer with helping to look for his forever home and all, I will keep you updated as to tomorrows outcome.

You all are so wonderful for helping this gentlemen out!!
He does deserve better than concrete floors and unfamiliar smells....
Since he was also with an older other copanion who did not make it, if he gets a forever home with a younger boxer brother/sister he might just spunk up and live a few more yrs...but it would be a great few more years for him that is for sure.

Keep us all posted on this lovable senior!!!

Getting cold feet! I can pick him up but I have to have a committment for an adoption

My husband is adamant about not taking on any more pets because of $$ as well as space. In addition to our 3 pets we have 2 young children ages 2 & 5 to care for, blah,blah,blah..
I can foster Nickleby but only for a brief period. He is still there as of this morning. He has already been delayed by 2 days in being put down. He is an intact senior male picked up as a stray with no health history so he will need to be fully vetted more $$ I just don't have. Can anyone commit to adopting him before I commit to picking him up? He's about an hour and half away from me.
I am willing to transport within a few plus hours distance from my home.
Any takers? Call me home 336.659.8588 or cell 336.918.5053 email me yvetteyoung@bellsouth.net...
I really can only pick him up if I have a plan as to his permanent placement even if its in a months time or so that would/could work..Fingers crossed and say a prayer.

Sincerely begging for his life!

Hi Leezah,

If it helps at all I have also been approved for adoption/fostering by BRBR ( home visit, 3 personal reference checks, vet check and all else that they require) as of only recently, this however was after we had adopted Hummer so we didn't peruse an adoption through BRBR. Hopefully my foster application will bare some credentials as far as BRBR taking on Nickleby as a placement candidate with myself willing to foster him
I had planned on attending a Pumpkin Festival in Elkin tomorrow which is in it self weird because I have never even been to Elkin, but the animal rescue I got Hummer from will be there so I said I would more then likely meet them there so they could see how well Hummer is doing he's an absolute luv..as well as the kids enjoying the festivities..
I'll call the vets office and see if I can go and meet Nickleby on Sat. and we'll see how things work out.
I wish I had more free time and dollars to do more, between kids, animals and life in general it gets pretty busy around here.

Thanks again Leezah for all your efforts.
Yvette

P.S.
I spoke to the vet where Nickleby is, I wanted to make sure they wouldn't be putting him down today. I will be going to meet him on Sat.

Please help Nickleby find a forever home!

Well I met Nickleby today. He's a small little guy weighed in @ 52 lbs.
He looks like he's had a really rough life, recently anyway. He was picked up as a stray in shopping center parking lot. He's been in the shelter since the 8th of Oct. I think today was the first time the vet checked him out because of my concern with how bad he looked. He's very skinny and frail and could easily use a minimum of 20 lbs. His eyes where a bit clouded over the vet said probably cataracts. His gums looked swollen, his teeth looked surprisingly not so bad. He has a large nasty looking infected sore on his outer rear thigh the vet said more then likely he was left to lie down for long periods of time on cement causing a sort of bed sore. I asked the vet to please hold off on putting him down he said as long as he was sure someone was trying to find a home for him he'd hold onto him at least another week. I quite honestly was concerned for my own dogs safety as far as bringing him home today and him having some type of contagious illness that mine could catch. My Hershey is a senior herself nearly 10 yrs old, she is also why I'm reluctant about bringing him home I want to give Hershey as much time with me as I can and that even now sometimes gets hard to do. Aside from his lousy situation (a death sentence) he seemed to be a sweet dog with not a bone of aggression in him, he met my male and didn't take any notice of him. It was a freezing day and I think he was chilled to the bone. He looked like a deer in headlights afraid of what was coming next...He was fine with people even my kids didn't make him at all nervous.
Lets say a prayer and see if we can come up with a life plan for Nickleby, I am willing to pick him up, foster him if only for a brief period as well as assist in his transport.

Look forward to talking with you.
Yvette

Ok after reading this and looking at his pictures(and after much much begging with gary) we have decided if no one else can take him we will. We recently just brought Phoenix home but think things are stable enough to bring Nickelby in if need be. Our two are a good bit playful but only while outside and Im sure I could make things very comfortable for him for the time he has left. I will be out of town until the 4th of November. Is there anyway you can pull and foster him until then? I could meet about halfway from you (about 5 hours from you) on the 7th or 8th if that was good for you. I could also pay the pulling fees and whatever else it is you might have to pay. If you think I can help you can im me.

Yay...perhaps some hope for little Nickleby?!?!

If you can take Nickleby as a foster, I will help drive him to VA ( I am halfway between Yvette and you) and I will pay for him to get pulled and vetted. We have to find a way to get him out of the shelter....

Nickleby needs a home to spend the rest of his days in...his last memory can't be life in a shelter cage :( I have been so worried and sad about this situation with him and would love it if you could take him. PLEASE let me know whatever I can do to help...maybe he can be vetted and neutered before he is pulled.

Thank you everyone who has cared enough about this little old guy, and especially thank you Yvette and RavenGirl.
