Silly bone question

I don't BARF, but I would like to get Darwin a bone as a treat because he truly is uninterested in any synthetic chew toys like kongs or nylabones.

So, when I go into the supermarket and up to the butcher, what do I ask for? I realize this is a basic question, but I was too embarrassed just to say a bone for my dog, and leave it up to the butcher. Is there a specific bone (or animal) or word for what to ask for?

Just ask for soup or marrow bones. They will know what it is for. Your dog will love you for it.

If you have trouble getting it from the butcher, try going to the markets in Chinatown. The bones that are best are leg bones that are just like a tube with delicious marrow in the middle that'll satisfy you dog for hours...

Yup - a soup bone or a marrow bone - the bigger the better! :D

You may also want to scoop out some of the marrow as it's very rich and can cause diarrhea (doesn't usually, but just in case...).

Happy gnawing, Darwin!

I must add "better be safe than sorry" - scoop out the marrow at least the first time or two. I'm speaking from experience :o! ~ Lisa
