I haven't seen Sidney, so I'll just say that often people feel their Boxers are too skinny, when they're really just right. At her ideal weight, you should be able to just see the outline of her last 3 ribs, and when you feel her ribs they should feel like the back of your hand.

If she's too skinny (her spine and hip bones are prominent when she's standing) increase her food intake. Hamburger and rice will only help while you're feeding it, as you've found. If she's getting 1 c. of food, up it to 1 1/4 c. If she's still too skinny after 1-2 weeks, add another 1/4 c. You do want the weight to come on slowly. Once she gets to her ideal weight, be sure to cut back slightly or she'll keep gaining.

I have the same problem! Eddie is thin too. The vet has commented on how thin he is but as the years go by and he is healthy the vet just figures Eddie is a thin dog. He ways 53 pounds. He is muscular though, you could use a marker and trace his muscle definition! People comment on how they can see his ribs!

Sidney weighs 44 lbs. She is very muscular, and you can start to see her spine. I have them on a free feeder. The vet also stated that let her eat at her own pace..... If you ask me the vet is crazy, but my fiance insists that we go to him... Anyway I found a recipe for satin balls... I am going to try it.

Boxer Buddy
HI, we had the same problem with our male Boxer all of his life, we thought he was to skinny, but the vet said he was just right. But then if you look at our linebacker Daisy who is just huge and looks awesome, he was way skinny. We just fed him IAMS dry dog food and sometimes we mixed it with canned food and of course he got people food as well. He would rather open a door (deadbolt and all)with his teeth, yes he had broken teeth, then eat his food. But when he ate he ate alot. I wouldn't worry about it as long as your vet thinks she is just right.

Completely Boxer Crazy
Hi, Amy, I'm sure you don't have much to worry about. My sister worries alot about Monty's sibling Sophie. She weighs about the same as your Sidney. Monty is arround 70 Ibs and is a good half size taller again. He too looks quite thin to me, but then most boxers we see in the Uk are a bit stockier than elsewhere. My vet say's He's a nice slim boxer but has plenty of muscle. Sophie's vet says the same. They both have lots of exercise each day, usually at least once a day with each other. I must say Monty is more food motivated than Sophie, she will refuse meals sometimes and my sister tends to fuss more when she does. I think Sophie is perhaps more hypo-active than Monty, which perhaps keeps her weight down more. I've said this before but its like the lion chasing the gizzelle when they are running together.

too skinny

If your boxer is really to thin maybe they are not absorbing
enough nutrients from ther diets. Gypsy has been on
prozyme for about a year and she will the rest of her
life you will see a remarkable improvment in weight, coat
and energy levels. You should also make sure your dog
is worm free those hooks and whips are hard to get rid
of especially if your on a farm. The prozyme is a powder
that is added to the food it has no protein so no indegestion . Many magazines have it but care-alot is
cheapest at $17 for 5-6 wk supply and you can get it
through your vet. It's well worth it
