Hello, all! Annabells mom here, we are having more troubles! Last week while at work my dad called and said that she seemed sick. I went home and the poor thing was covered from head to toe in what looked like very, very large ant bites. Naturally I took her straight to the vet since she is my other child. The vet decided she had a bacterial infection and on top of that she had mange.

Annabell loves to play outside and gets underneath of our house and gets all muddy. The vet said that is why she got the infection and the mange. Her pores got clogged with dirt and the infection set in.

I can not always watch her when she goes outside and I do not know how she gets under the house. I do not like to chain her up because here in TEXAS the temp is out of this world (90 today already). Any one have any suggestions on ways that I can get her to go out and come in quickly and do her excersise in the house?

Hopefully you are not keeping her as an outside dog, are you? Boxers need to be indoor dogs, as they cannot tolerate the heat (or cold) very well.

I live in Central Texas, and it gets quite hot here. My Madeline does NOT go outside unless she is supervised to potty, or unless we go on walks. This is the only way you can ensure her safety.

Also - I saw your post on Breeding. Just FYI, a dog that has had mange of any sort should never be bred because this could be passed on to pups (it is genetic).

There are hundreds of old wives tales that should never be taken seriously, such as breeding a dog to 'calm it down'. Thats just irresponsible and completely untrue. Your female should never be bred unless she passes all appropriate health-testing (OFA Hips, Heart, thyroid, etc..) and some of these tests cannot begin until she reaches 2 years of age.

No, my Annabell is only outside for potty breaks and if the family is outside with her to play. It is very hot in Pasadena, TX and I have read that Boxers are not equipt to deal with the heat. She is very much an inside dog, but at the moment we are doing the dips for her Red Mange and the vet said that it would be to stressful for her to be dipped and to have her spayed at the same time.
I am paying 40.00 a visit for her dips and I still have 5 more dips to go. She does not have the Red Mange bad or anything, just a few patches her and there. But since we started the dips she is loosing more hair and is developing more patches on her back end. The vet said this is the best thing for her and I am sort of leary of self medicating her because I have a small child at home and do not want my daughter to be around the dog if she happens to become sick from the medicine that I bought over at the Feed Store.
