I have a 2 year old female who ended up having an anal gland problem. She had diarhea and was vomiting a bit of bile. She had a bloody anal hole and a very raw tip of tail. I had her on the bland diet of boiled hamberger and rice, which she puked up the first time.
I took her to the vet two days ago and the emptied her anal duct. And said that was all she had wrong. But she is still vomitting. I called the vet today and asked if they could have a different DR. to look at her file for a second opinion. She is still her same old self not lethargic or anything. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Did she eat something she shouldn't have? What food was she eating prior to the hamburger and rice? Some dogs have issues with grains and if that's the case it *could* be causing the vomiting. I have also had my dog puke for no apparent reason before and it subsides in a day or two. Does she puke after every meal or only sometimes, could she be eating too fast? Drinking too fast/too much at one time?

I have her on Acana Prairie harvest which have absolutly no grains.
The vomiting has been going on for a over a week and a half. The only thing I know for a fact she ate was the acana grassland which has lamb at my moms and I know lamb doesn't agree with her. But you would think that that would have passed by now. And the puking started along the same time as her bum going raw.

Did the vet do any blood work on your dog? The vomitting sounds like it could be pancreatitis related which is confirmed with a blood test.

No the vet didn't really do much of anything. Thats why I called the vet office and asked for another Dr. to look at the file. Cause she just told me that it was her anal gland.And if she didn't get better in a week bring her back. She pretty much ignored that I told her my baby was vomitting and had diarhea. Plus it was kind of a given when my girl wasn't to sure with this vet she even growled at her ( thats not normal at all) and was fine with the vet tech. If worse comes to worse Ill take my girl to a different office.

I'd absolutely get a 2nd opinion with another vet. Vomiting for over a week with diarrhea isn't anal glands (chances are the anal glands were full BECAUSE of the diarrhea).

I completely agree with the posting above -- get a second opinion. My boy had pancreatitis a few years ago and I'm not sure if diarrhea is a symptom of pancreatitis or not, but vomitting certainly is and it's not something to mess around with. You'll find a wealth of information on-line about pancreatitis. Good luck. Keep us posted and we look forward to reading about your baby's recovery.

when we adopted Chubs he had an infected anal gland (had just happened the day before--not blaming the rescue at all!). we took him to the vet the next day and he was put on clavamox pills. a week or two later he started vomiting all night, about 3 nights in a week. we took him back to the vet and changed a lot of things--switched to Fromms kibble from Nutro, removed bully sticks and rawhide, added and then stopped pumpkin for extra fiber, started metamucil for fiber, added prozyme, started and stopped herbal remedy for allergies, started chlortrimaton for the allergies, stopped gating in one room at night. . . it was a long week. the vomiting happened once or twice more and then stopped. never really knew what it was that worked.
unfortunately the anal gland issue was harder to resolve and took several courses of clavamox pills and eventually the vet had to "infuse" the anal gland itself (basically squirt antibiotic into it) before it healed.

So I got a different vet to look at Thai and it ended up being she picked up beaver fever from drinking lake water. So they put her on an antibiotic and she is doing much better. Thanks Everyone for your help.
