How old is your puppy?
IMO I don't think weights are necessary.
If your puppy is young you really don't want to push him with forced exercise as it could be hard on his bones and joints. Boxers are normally thin looking until they mature at the age of 2-3 years. Feeding an excellent quality food and regular exercise (such as playing and running) should be all he needs.
I'm sure others with more experience in conformation will be able to give you advice on how to prepare your pup for the ring.

Not until he is a minimum of 18 months, no. To do so any earlier would risk irreparable orthopaedic damage to his joints and spine. By the time he is 18 months, btw, I believe you will see that he won't need "building up" since boxers are a naturally muscular breed. He will not be full grown until he is between 2 and 3 years old.

I agree that weights are really not necessary, if you look at some of the photos in my gallery you will see both my boxers are very muscular especially my white male - Finnegan - and I do nothing other than feed them a good healthy diet and make sure they get plenty of exercise the rest comes naturally :)
