Should I get a white pup?

Our first boxer was brindle and the new addition Ellie, is a white boxer. She's the sweetest little thing ever. I think if everything checks out with the parents then go for it. We now have a total of 3 white boxers at our vet and the girls that work there flipped out over her. You don't see them everyday and I have to say, it's a nice change for us.

Of course you should get a white puppy! I guess I'm a little partial since I am the proud mommy of an absolutely gorgeous white boxer boy. I get TONS of compliments on him at the dog park and people are always whispering to each other about how "beautiful that dog is". I have good ears when it comes to my boys Make sure the parents have been health tested and if they have, go for it! Happy puppy hunting!

If you like the color, go for it. I had one that has just died. She was a boxer thru and thru. Her personality was on the nervous side with strangers, but she was excellent with children.

Having said that, beware that some whites are deaf or blinnd or partially so. We made sure that we checked both before we got her. The breeder's vet also had checked her. And we were on edge for awhile, but she proved to have excellent eyes and ears...she was a great watchdog. There cab also be concerns regarding sunburns and skin cancers.

I found that people thought she might be a pit bull of sorts. Her white color (she had her ears up) was more intimidating to strangers. The mailman was scared of her. Interesting because, she never bit anyone.

Having said that, beware that some whites are deaf or blinnd or partially so.

White boxers are no more likely to be blind than any other colour. They do have a 30% chance of being deaf. This should be apparant by 8 weeks of age and can be tested for without much difficulty.

Jan, I have not experienced either. I am only repeating what I have read on many websites and books.

But either way, yes, both deafness and blindness should be noticed before the puppy gets to your house.

my first boxer was white (although every year he'd get more "age spots"! tiny little brown polka dots!) and he was great! No hearing problems, no skin problems! Maybe I was lucky...if the breeder is a good one and everything checks out, then I say "go for it"--the only difference is the color--still a boxer with all the wonderful, silly, crazy antics!
Definite attention getters too, which of course means you will be subject to lots of unsolicitated "advice" and "facts" about white boxers from well-intentioned, un-informed folks as well, so be prepared! (my favorites were when "they" would tell me Norton couldn't possibly be "pure" boxer--I heard everything from pit mix and amer. bulldog to dalmation! or that he had to be deaf b/c ALL white boxers are deaf and very sickly!)

My beautiful baby boy is white, and he is the smartest most beutiful pup you could wish for! really clever, learnt quickly and as with the other posters on here we cannot go out without being stopped by countless people who compliment him no end!
