Should I feel bad?

I had a 3 year old cocker spaniel along with my Tuggy bear. Well it was just getting to be to much. I am in college full-time, and work full-time. My DH is never home, and I just was getting overstressed. I found her a great home with a friend of mine, but I feel so guilty about it. It was for her own good, she is a princess, and needs to be treated like that. I didn't even have time to get her groomed every 4 weeks anymore. She is spoiled in this new house, my friend gave her a bath in her spa tub with special girlie shampoo. She got a fluffy pink diva bed.

I went through a lot of guilt when we had to place our other boxer Samson last year. (I still have a hard time, honestly, because I miss him.) But the situation I put him in was better for him and for us. (He was not good with my son at all.) He is now with our friend who has no kids and he is very happy. I think my vet summed it up when I was talking to him about how badly I felt and wanted reassurance that I did the right thing. I really respect my vet and he said that sometimes we think that the best place for our pet is with us, and sometimes that is not so. If you can place your dog in a situation that really will be better for them, then you are doing the right thing, IMO. I know that does not keep you from missing them, but it made me feel like I did the right thing for Sam. Sounds llike she is very loved and well taken care of in her new home and you should be happy that you found her someone to give her all the attention she needs! :)

Sounds like she is going to be ok, although possibly a tad spoiled in her new home. You said it yourself in that she needed someone to pamper her, and if you dont have the time, then it's just not possible. It's like that for all of us, so dont blame yourself. Maybe you can work in some time to visit her or just to call and see how she is. I'm sure time and reassurance will help a great deal--you did the right thing for her sake. She will appreciate it really.

P.S. I hadn't looked at any pics of Tuggy lately, he's so big now. I always thought he looked like a pretty stuffed animal when he was a baby--he's a handsome little devil.
