Nikita's been shedding for weeks now. How long does it last? and how often throughout the year do they shed? Does bathing help? Also I find it hard to pick up off clothes or carpet with the vaccuum. I massage Nikita regularly (loves it) and I cannot believe the amount of hair falling out!! Also I notice the new hair growth is growing the opposite direction and is almost blonde in some areas. Anybody else??:) Hope I've posted in right forum....

I can understand where your coming from, Bruiser has been shedding like crazy these past few months, you should see my jeep!!!! I have heard of a deshedder called the furminator that is supposed to work really well, I saw it at the vet's office the other day but was kinda low on funds.(had just paid a $350 vet bill....yikes) Think I will give it a try.

Cooper is shedding a bit right now too. One of the best (and easiest) things I have found to do is just take him outside and rub his coat vigorously with a towel. It loosens all the hair and picks it up and off of him. Also when I bathe him, I use a curry brush (like you would use on a horse) to loosen up the hair while I shampoo him.

Rubber curry brush works great. Furminator not so good on boxer coat from what I hear from my groomer friend. If you are going to bathe, make sure to get dog completely dry with a hair dryer afterward or shedding will be worse. Letting them air dry seems to make the shedding worse.

I love the curry comb. I do air dry the dogs as they are afraid of hair dryers, but I do need to use the curry comb again to get the rest. After this procedure(comb, bathe, air dry, them comb again) they don't seem to have much more shedding. Good Luck. I have tried various brushes, but the dogs love the curry comb. You just use it and they feel like they are being petted!

My husband got into bed the other night and said "man, I am really going bald!" I just started laughing and said no, it is dog hair, I didn't make the bed and the dogs used your pillow. Mine are shedding more right now too, I'm glad to hear others are dealing with this, I was afraid there was something going on with mine. I brushed them today, but I don't know how much it is going to help. :)

Chief is shedding like crazy too right now! Is it the time of year? Because I don't remember it being like this over the summer.??

Mine go thru phases of shedding too. The only place I notice their hair is in the back seat of my car. I cannot get that darn hair out no matter what I do. Any advice how to get it out of my car??? It's like the short hairs are woven in the fabric. I have tried the vacum, a sticky rolly thing, a damp cloth.

When Izzy was tiny, and during her first few baths, I never noticed hair coming out. Then, I think it was around 6 months, I thought she was losing her puppy hair, because she would shed like crazy when I gave her a bath.
Elindave: isn't your baby around that age? Maybe it's her age, cause I remember Izzy shedding like crazy then. She did kinda get a different coat... not sure if that really happens or if it was in my head.

The only other time I see their hair is when I bathe them. Sometimes, not too much hair comes out during a bath and other times, tons comes out. I just bought a brush at walmart that is that rubber glove one. It works well, but I can't get the hair out of the small side. I have a furminator, but it doesn't really do anything to them, and I thought I was hurting them. Its great for my cats though.

In regard to dog hair in the car, buy a proper seat cover (pet supply stores & online supply companies sell them) or use a blanket/covering of some kind that can be removed easily and washed...it's the only way :)
