This sounds like a pretty common boxer trait! Zack absolutely hated the rain when he was really young. He tolerates it now, but waits to go out until he really, really has to go. He's like a little kid that walks around with his legs crossed because he has to go pee so bad :D . We live right near a beach, so Zack will get to go swimming this summer - we'll see if it makes a difference with his feelings about the rain.

I sometimes swear that they are more like cats than dogs, esp. when it comes to getting wet. Fletcher also hated the rain for the first few months that he was with us, but after being dragged out enough times, he has figured out that the faster he goes the faster he can come back in.
The other thing that helped us out a lot was giving him is first bath. Once he got more comfortable with the idea of being wet and then towel dried, he seemed to be better with the rain & generally foul weather that we have been plagued with all spring.

Nino has always hated the rain also. What worked for me is that I put his towel by the door so he knows he's going to get dried off as soon as he comes back in. He will hold it as long as he can and then he'll go to the door but won't go outside until I put his towel there. Still if its raining too hard I have to get the umbrella and walk out with him:) Unfortunately its been very rainy here lately.

Scrapper's Mom

Scrapper hates to go out and do his business in the rain, too. Once he feels the tiniest spit of moisture on the top of his head, he jerks it right back in the house. He will only go when his bladder has reached the bursting point. We have to go out with him and stand there with the umbrella, too, like some of the other posters.

I still have a memory, long ago, of training one of our puppies in the dead of winter, at night, standing in the cold, pouring rain, under an umbrella, trying to get her to "go" while she sniffed around my muddy feet. ...Miserable...

Niko is the same way! He sniffs the air outside, one drop and his head is back in! He won't even put his body out there. I usually have to go in the rain with him, I tried the umbrella thing, he's afraid of it! I wonder why they don't like rain? Niko loves the tub, he was crying last night cuz he wanted to get in with me! I used to close the door on him when he was out in the rain doing his deed, but his face was pitiful!

doggie booties maybe? I've seen them at PetSmart. Of course at her age, by the time you get them on, she may have already peed.

I thought it was only my dog that hated the rain. To solve this problem, I take an umbrella and drag him outside. Like the other person said, the sooner he goes, the sooner he can come back inside. He's learning...

Lexi was the same way. She's 4 mths now. When we first got her she would totally put on the brakes if I tried to pull her off the patio when the grass was wet. She would just go on the patio. Now she figured that if she scoots right along the house under the over hang she can poo w/o getting wet. All of a sudden one day she just stopped going on the patio and went barely in the grass to tinkleappicon .

Harley is a rain hater too. He will not go to the door if it is raining, and when I finally drag him out it's one of those waterfall pees:) . He then bolts straight to the door, any other day there would be a fight to get him inside.
