I honestly think you will live to regret if you bring these puppies home so soon. I post this every time this topic comes up, but I can tell you honestly that there is a very great likelihood that these puppies are going to have some big-time bite inhibition issues. It may help if you can at least keep the two of them together until they are 7-8 weeks.

We've had dogs come into rescue that were initially sold at 5-6 weeks and in my experience these dogs frequently have bite inhibition issues and while I have no scientific proof to back it up, I'd swear they are much harder to housebreak, too.

please reconsider buying from this breeder. 5 weeks is far too early, because puppies learn many things from their mother and littermates in the 5-8 week period. i won't go into detail, because everyone else has already done an excellent job of that ;).

Gosh it is hard to find "good breeders" anymore.

michigan is quite close to ontario, right? well, i happen to know that there are some excellent breeders in the southern ontario region. if you are willing to drive 7 hours to go to that other "breeder", then approx. 2 hours to get into ontario shouldn't be an issue, right?

I would REALLy consider changing breeders if i were you - with deposit or without. if this breeder is actually a BYB (which seems more than likely, IMO) than you will be doling out a LOT more money for vet bills and special training classes than you would be if you got a boxer from a responsible breeder.

whatever you decide, good luck!!

I am by no means a breeder or even skilled at what it takes to be a breeder, but I gotta ask, Soon2B seems to be asking a lot of the right questions and is quite considerate and caring. What do you all presume will happen if she were to back out? What type of owner would wind up with these pups?

Well, it's kind of like buying a puppy from a pet store . . . you want to "save" the dog so you buy it . . . happens all the time. But we are of more service to the breed if we walk away. Every puppy purchased from a disreputable breeder or from a pet store just lines the pockets of backyard breeders and puppy mills. Every puppy purchased in this way just fuels the market for more.

Besides that, just imagine if everyone demanding excellence out of a dog breeder? Imagine if no one ever supported poor breeding practices. Those people would then not find BYB or puppy-mill breeding very lucrative if even a money making enterprise at all and they would (in theory) be forced to be on the up-and-up and raise their standards. Now, of course, I sound like like a dreaming idealist here because this utopia I speak of will never occur in our lifetimes, but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't all try to do our little part to add to the whole.

not to mention the MOTHER of the poor puppy you end up "saving". if you buy that puppy, you are condemning it's mother to a lifetime of cruelty, negligence and abuse to say the least :(. not worth it, IMO.
