She Peed on my Bed

OK! We had an issue yesterday and I think my baby is mad at me???

I took all the sheets off the bed to wash them. My comforter was laying on the floor. Libby went into the bedroom while we were watching TV and peed on the comforter. FYI - I just had her outside 15 mins before.
Then later- I put the clean sheets on the bed. She went in and peed on my side of the bed. Big old puddle. Oh - I was angry - but couldnt do anything because I didn't catch her in the act.

Usually, if she needs to go potty she will go sit in front of the door. Very rarely if she has an accident, it is never in our bedroom.

Not sure why she would be mad at me. Anyone else ever have this problem?

Is she on medication or anything like that? Perhaps a quick trip to the vet to rule out health problems would be in order.

I think it helps to realize that dogs don't have "anger" the way people do. A really good book to read is "The Culture Clash" by Jean Donaldson. It explains so much about canine behavior.

Libby is only 9 months old. She was just at the vet 2 weeks ago. She hasn't had any other accidents in the house for a long time.

My Mother in Law's boxer urinated on her daughter's bed after she took away a stuffed animal from her that was sitting on the bed. She has also urinated in front of the basement door if she gets kicked out of the basement. That's why I figured she was maybe upset with me or trying to get my attention.

Thanks for the info on the book. I might have to check it out.

I too understand what you are going through (or went through) my 9 1/2 month old puppy has peed in my bed 3 times. I am not sure whether or not he is doing in his sleep, but he really has me confused. He gets up the same time every morning to go to the bathroom, and goes out every night before he hits the sheets. I am not sure if there is a reason behind why he is doing this. It is very uncomfortable to wake up in the morning to a wet bed.

If you are able to rule out medical causes and the dog is reliably housebroken I would suggest you are seeing a dominance display. In effect, she's peeing on YOU and marking you as her own. I would do some research on how to take back a leadership role. Simple things like making her work for everything, handfeeding, resource control, crating, will make a big difference and needn't be harsh on either of you.

Thank you so much for your suggestions. Gunner was just neutered and I am wondering if this will cut down on his "marking". I know I am just being very hopefull. He would is housebroken, and would never think of going in the house, but for some reason, he decides to go in my bed. He is also crate trained, still somewhat has a hard time with that. I will have to try your suggestions and let you know how I make out, and thank you again for your help. Anything to change his little habbit!!!!!!

Amers, if your guy is only 9.5 months old and is displaying this behaviour I suggest now would be a very good time to start instituting a leadership protocol. Dominance displays at this age can (not necessarily WILL but can) escalate as he matures and grows more confident. In a gentle way, start teaching him now that you are the leader and you will have a dog who grows into a confident but not overpowering companion. So many of the problems of the "teenage years" - particularly with boxers who can be pushy to start with - can be avoided by setting the right tone in the home right from the start.

Great advice!

I will definately look into the dominance issue. Libby hasn't done this since. I have also been very good about training & crating. But I will definately do my research.

Thanks!

Elmo has pee'd on our bed too! He dribbles little drops in his sleep and by morning the dribbling amounts to a huge wet spot. It only happened on a few occassions. He is such a hard sleeper. I don't think he feels himself urinating. I have seen him dribble on his belly when he sleeps belly up and he doesn't seem to notice it.

so upset...

last night will be the fourth time that roxy has peed on a bed...and it was at the house of a great friend of mine who volunteered to watch her for a few days while i was out of town this week.

the last time that she did it was a month ago, and it was on my roommate's bed while i was at work. he has peed on that same bed another time about a month before that.

the first time was about 4 months ago on MY bed ( the only time on my bed) i was in there in the next room when she did it.

she sleeps in my bed every night ( in my roommate's bed when i am working at night.) my roommate's comforter is NOT down, but mine is, not sure about the one she peed on last night. ( i know some people think there is a connection between them peeing on down blankets.)

she is crate trained and she does not pee in the house at all or her crate ( maybe once in the past 6 months )

any ideas??

i am **SOOO* mortified that she did that last night at my friend's house... he has a boxer too that she loves and i loved knowing she was being well taken care of while i was at work... so sad and stressed to have to find another option- let alone i feel like a jerk for having a dog that would do that at someone's house... he was so mad..

i have gotten so much good info off this page- i really hope you guys have some ideas for me this time.. thanks in advance.
