Hi.
Our not so little 12 week baby is coming in less than 7 days.
These are the things i have....I have a crate...with blankets..
dog food...bowls...horse brush for her coat..treats..collar(2) ....two leashes.
She has her 1st visit with the vet booked 3 days after...i got good cuz..
Can any of you think of anything i might be missing?
I am a mom of three kids under 7....we have a room designated for the kids...we call it the kids play room...its got a LOT of kids toys..small and large...the room can be closed with a gate.
Should i be concerned about her swollowing any of the toys??maybe i should bring the small toys in the bsmt?
She is also coming with 6 weeks doggie insurence provided by ckc
I am going to continue the basic package....as i know the vet bills can get very high when something unexpected happens.
This is all new to me....any advice
ps.
I also read ...to get rid of urine smell ...each time she has an accident i should clean it with pure white vinegar.....is this true?
Thanks.
We are so excited!!!!

It sounds like you are ready for your baby to get home! I think you have everything you need.

My only thing is, I was cleaning accidents with Resolve and there was a hint of urine smell and stains, sometimes more often than not. I had my carpets cleaned a couple months ago and they told me to use white vinegar and hot water. I have to say that this has worked wonders. I have no stains. They explained to me that the Resolve PH reacts with the urine to make the stains brighter. Although Duke does not have many accidents he used to I would use the vinegar at first, it has worked for us.

Good Luck!

Oh congratulations!! appicon I feel your excitement!!
As for the toys, it's best to keep an eye on your puppy...they do LOVE to chew...anything!! They can very easily choke on small things. Give your puppy plenty of chew toys. Also, a Kong filled with peanut butter, in moderation, (you can freeze it for a special treat) will keep a teething puppy content for a while! ;)
You can find tons of information in the Puppy Forum!
Vinegar is what I used for accidents around the house. Mixed with hot water, it's a great stain-removing solution...and oder-eater! I also have some pre-mixed in a spray bottle I use for all the slobber marks on the windows and tables! ;)
Good luck..but it sounds like your totally prepared! Keep us posted on how it's going. Have you thought of a name yet? :)

vinegar mixture

How much vinegar to how much hot water...or does it matter?
Her name....well we originally thought we were going to get a boy.....until she stole our heart.
Than once we decided that she WAS the one....there was the issue of a name.
My 4 year old said..."no girlie name please"...since there are 3 females in our home and only 2 males...he feels outnumbered"LOL
So we decided it would be Brownie....i should say thats the name the kids decided......until we did some thinking.
The breeder has already given her a name that we all think is pretty beautiful
NINA...meaning GRACE and beautiful
And to be honest it suits her to a tee........so she is staying ...NINA
She is all over fawn with just a bit of bridle stripping on ONE side.
But its her expressive eyes that got ME.
At the beginning i was torn between a boxer and a lab.
But once i held a boxer and looked in their eyes there was no more choice to make.
NINA is coming by plane....She is getting spayed this monday...she is also turning 12 weeks old
I know some people here do not agree with having a dog spayed so young but after much research there is nothing saying anything against it.
They actually bounce back a lot faster due to the fact that less drugs are used.
Every day seems to drag....I want her here with us....i keep looking of pictures of her and just wish she was here

I think spaying early is great! We did it at 12 weeks and it was definitely the right decision. Quick recovery, reallly quick recovery :) I also think Nina is a beautiful name! Good luck with your baby...she will continue to steal your heart every day! Pay close attention, take lots of pictures and video if you have one, they grow sooooo quickly!!!!

Enjoy.

Nina...a beautiful name! :) I think we all hear ya about the eyes! Boxers have such expressive eyes...you look into their eyes and you see into their souls!
My Xena was 12wks whe I brought her home too. I found the advantage to that was the potty training was a breeze and less accidents in the house!
Again...best of luck to you and your family with your pup! Let us know when you have her! :)

*ps*...I never really measure the vinegar to water. I just use my own judgement and do it by eye. Never too much cuz the smell of vinegar overpowers everything else!

accidents

I agree.
This breeder is amazing...Nina is crate trained and will be spayed when we get her.
I do wish that we had her when she was tiny....but like you said there will be advantages of getting her now.
I tell my kids all the time...she will not look like a puppy....WELL maybe a BIG puppy.LOL

Congrats on Nina!

Those eyes will get you every time, they can melt a cold heart & see right through you! But, Nina will give your family more love than you can imagine! She will be right there with the kids in the play room, they love toys, the kids will be her pack. LOL, Hanley

Congratulations on your new puppy.

Using vinegar is not a good idea and should never be used to clean up after your puppy as the smell will attract her back to the same area. Get Natures Miracle instead. You can get it at any pet store. It works really well, but I would put it in a spray bottle.
