I haven't had Oscar tested, but he seems to react to kibbles with canola oil. Unfortunately many manufacturers of premium kibbles have switched the fat to canola oil. :(

We found out Fuego was also allergic to something (we are suspecting it was chicken because he had more reactions after an agility class where we used boiled chicken as his treat) His symptoms were itchy ears, runny eyes, and itchy feet. We switched him to the Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream formula (he was on the High Plains formula before) and it has made an amazing difference. His ears were usually pretty dirty before (I clean them once per week, but the vet kept telling me there was no infection) when I cleaned them recently they were almost completely clean. His eyes are running less also. The best part is the new food has Omega 3 fatty acids in it (because of the fish) so his coat is shiny! It is a great food and is worth trying if your dog is maybe allergic to the protiens in their food...or grains, since the food is grain free also.

WeasleRocky

Completely Boxer Crazy
Rocky broke out in huge hives one day after being left alone most of the day, the only time EVER...lol we think he got an insect bite tho, he was miserable, he looked like the grape dude from the fruit of the loom commercials... everywhere  so we dosed him up a couple times throughout the nite with benadryl and by mid day the next day he was ok, now I'm not sure if it was anxiety that gave him hives or an insect bite, because we never found the bite... being a mama's boy and having me home all the time and his dad when I'm not able to be here, I almost think it was anxiety... I hope he never gets a case of HIVES like that again.... EVER!!!!!

good luck with your girl... keep us posted... Nylah, hope your daddy gets ya all figured out hon... for your sake and his...;) take care

Archie is allergic to chicken. I home cook for him, so it wasn't hard to figure out what it was. He can eat a little, but if he gets too much or gets it too often, he'll get really big hives all over. He also has a real problem with grains. It took quite a long time to figure this one out, but if he eats any type of bread he'll get terrible stomach cramps (very painful) and his IBS will act up. He also has seasonal allergies, which so many boxers do. He'll just chew away at his paws in the Spring. I do give him a child's Benedryl when this occurs or when he eats chicken.

Diamond, my first boxer, was allergic to pork - couldn't eat it at all.

Keep trying to eliminate foods to see if the symptoms improve. We did that and it didn't take too long to spot the problem.

Hi - I know how frustrated you must be as I went through this ordeal with Grace a year or so ago. Grace broke out in to HIVES all over her body and we suffered through that for months before I insisted to the vet that I was going to go see an allergist. Yes, it was expensive, but after all of the vet visits, the prednasone (which I hated for her), etc., it certainly wound up being MUCH less expensive. Most importantly, she's not suffering anymore.

After the allergy tests we discovered that Grace is allergic to "Johnson Grass" - which is pretty much the most common grass there is (which, by the way, I insisted when she was a puppy she was allergic to because she always incessantly licked and chewed her paws whenever she came back in from outside!). Ragweed is another. household mold - which you'll never get rid of - is another. and Fly dander of all things - like I live in a sewer?? - ugh.

I give Grace her allergy shot (believe me, it's no big deal and I am NOT one who likes needles/shots!) once every 3 weeks and she has never, ever had an allergy problem again. If you can swing it, I highly recommend a great canine allergist.

Good luck to you - I know how frustrated you must be!

Not your normal environmental allergy, but we found out Roxi is allergic to cephalexin. So not only did we have to find a new antibiotic, she also needed IV antihistimines. Nothing worse than a lumpy boxer!

Keira is allergic to something, but we're not sure what. The vet switched us over to Salmon and Potato dog food and I make her treats out of her kibble (wonderful idea the vet gave me!)

I didn't know about the testing though. I'll have to see about having that done. It'll have to be awhile. Keira just had a surgery and exams that cost me $753 and thats before the total from this weekend.

Quincy was allergic to lamb, eggs (very badly), corn, oatmeal, pumpkin, anything made by Mother Hubbard/Wellness and several meds including cephalexin and benedryl. He also had environmental allergies and was allergic to bee stings and spider bites. The only commercial food he tolerated was Solid Gold Mmillenium.
