I love to "wrestle" with my boxer. I always get a great workout especially now that he is getting bigger. when its time to stop playing I always say "thor, settle" and he shakes almost as if shaking off water and then he is completely calm. I have never seena dog do that before, just go from crazy to relaxed instantly. Has anyone else experienced this ?

Yup, Fletcher plays really rough with me and DH (amazing how he knows to be gentle with the kids) anyway all I have to do is say "Nice" and he goes to the floor on his back all legs up in the air all kissy and lovey almost as if to say "I'm really sorry if I got carried away. Do you still love me?" And of course I do!!!

Ya, mine are really good about stopping when i have had enough. However, they don't tend to do so well where the kids are concerened. They just want to keep playing and chase them. However, the girls laugh so I think that says to them we still want to play:)

"Shaking it off" is a calming response in a dog. Like when a dog is excited he raises his hackles. Shaking is the opposite. My dog often does this after he is barking at another dog that passes by the house. As soon as the dog is passed, he "shakes it off" and is relaxed.

Yep-LOL-all my boxers have been that way. I guess they learn early by picking up the ques from us when they are younger. ;)

I have never played with my boxers other then with toys, my boys and dh do that and sometimes they get carried away with Foreman it usually stops with a scream or an Ouch. and then Foreman puts his ears back and stops.

The command at our house is "Enough." If you still want to play you can tell him to "get a toy" and most of the time he'll oblige. I've never noticed him shake though! I'll have to pay closer attention! They seem to absolutely LOVE to wrestle, don't they?

Completely Boxer Crazy
Tig did that also

Our last Boxer was a great wrestler. He would rough and tumble like he was trying to mame you but was so soft mouthed. He could go from chewing on our arm to completely chilled in a second. We used the terms Settle or Enough.

My boxer boy understands Enough but our girl does not get it yet. We never had to teach it to Tig. He just knew it.

Yeah, he just seemed to know it we never taught him.
when we are wrestling i like to push him away real hard he slides back about 3 or 4 feet, coils and charges at full speed right back, what a workout !
One time after a marathon wrestling match I got him in a hold under his front leg and around his neck, he couldnt bite me or get away so he just layed there. I asked him " whos the winner ? " and let him go, he shook it off and walked away dejected, but came back a few minutes later and sat with me. gotta love him !!!
