Serious Problem -- Please Read!

With my dogs, they are not allowed in the house without a human present. When I am not at home they go in their crates or they are in the back yard. In the yard they can go into the garage, which is empty. I worry about what they will get into, not just destroying my stuff, but I don't want them to get into anything that would hurt them. I just feel better this way.

Roxy has just hit the 10 mo mark and while she has been left out a few nights to sleep on the couch i wouldnt dare give her the freedom of the house. this morning i tried to keep her confined to the hall with the doors shut and the baby gate (the kids were running in and out of the house i didnt want her to get out)she sat at the gate whinning and licking the gate and was very upset even though i had tossed all her toys over i think had i gone out side too she would have jumpped the gate.
Bear was able to be left out on his own fully by the time he was 10 mo so it just really depends on the dog ( oh yes to Bears credits are 1 couch some laundry a really expensive back support and a pair of binoculars)

I can trust my babies for about 1-2 hours max alone in the house. Anything longer than that and they are crated or come with us. I have cleaned up to many ripped magazines, newspapers and klennex boxes to try any more than that. Good luck on your training!

well i never crated my girl but then again i have 14 y old gotcha as a perfect deseplin tool she pretty much rules the house when i'm not around and jakie is such a play toy so they get along fine when i'm gone for long hours and they are left alone. i use baby gates to confine them to a certain area when i'm gone for real long time but ewven if i leave them around the house they do fine the only accedents i had is when i'm stupid enough to leave food out on a short table other than that they are well behaved i took it slowly alowing her out to diffrent rooms of the house being supervized and then let her roam around freely.now she pretty much sleeps or plays with jakie when no one is in the house. with gotcha's supervision of coarse she keeps everyone in line

Do you have a yard that your baby can be trusted in? Rocky stays outside while we're gone but can get into the garage if he wants. I guess we're lucky we've never had a problem with him getting into stuff while we're gone. He'll drag weeds or sticks into the garage and that's about it. But he LOVES to be outside. He loves laying in the sun and sniffing the air. He makes up his own games and keeps himself entertained all day. Sometimes my husband and I just watch him throug the window when he doesn't know we're there. When we leave, he'll sit in his bed as we back the car out of the garage, we'll place a treat on the ground and tell him "wait" and when the garage door is almost all the way down he'll get up and get his treat. We don't make a big deal when we leave or get home and that seems to work really well. That way he doesn't get over excited about either and it seems as casual as anything else he does.

I feel your pain...

My dog has successfully demolished a complete set of bay window 5 foot blinds.
Completely destroyed.

This after being left alone for about a half hour. He is 5 months old. And when i finally do arrive, he is breathing VERY heavy and seems OVER excited and relieved. He Pees and does number 2 and worst of all he eats it.

I'm assuming this is what they call separation anxiety. I have the crate and from now on (expensive lesson learned) will make sure to keep him there until he's a little older anyway.

Roscoe's 14mths old and I can't even leave him out for 30min by himself. I've discovered he can destroy a pair of shoes in 5min, and a couch in 20. He's my Tasmanian Devil. Ralph can be left uncrated for 8hrs straight but I always crate him, I have this fear that someone might break in and Ralph would get out and into the street.

We try to kennel?

We have used the same kennel for one year old Hilary since we got her three months ago. Hilary has escaped the kennel one or two times before but we just assumed we did not latch the gate properly.

This last saturday, we went to a musical and were gone for about 3-4 hours. We arrived home and on our walk to the door, we heard hilary bark once...we knew something was up as she never barks. We opened the door to find that she again has escaped her kennel. Hilary decided it would be fun to knock the dishes off the counter top and smash them on the floor. She then attempted to chew a broken glass, causing several lacerations to her lips and mouth.

She then proceded to chew everything plastic she could find, including remotes, make up, pillows, couch cushins, etc. Tracking blood all over in the process.

Thank goodness she was ok....needless to say, we have a new more secure kennel.

I have this problem too!!

Oh man I thought it was just me that had the whole morning routine of picking up everything and putting it up high and making sure the trash is taken out. Ali is one year and six months and we just start leaving him out of his kennel maybe about 5 months ago and at first it was a nightmare. Some days he does nothing and others he finds any and everything to destroy. I have been reading about this stuff called richards organic pet calm and all the reviews on Petco's site say it works. I also have been reading about comfort zone I hear that works too. It's supposed to calm them down and helps with the anxiety. I'm going to post a thread about it to see what others think before I buy it. You should check it out too!

makeup party

On a bad day (raining etc)I leave my babies in the kitchen (4 mths and 7mths old) however its up to ME to make sure there is nothing there for them to wreck! I have to push everything back from front of counters and leave nothing for them to "destroy"! Instead I leave plenty of toys! this works fine!

Last weekend I didnt do this and left a hangbag on the counter... WEll they chewed up my new makeup I just bought 100 euro worth! I didnt give out though as I lfet it was my fault... They thought they were playing!

Having a makeover party they were!!!
