My boxer, Chloe, is 17 months old. We've had her since she was 11 weeks old and she's always been crate trained. Lately, when we leave the house and put her in the crate we come back to a crate full of spit (and Im talking the whole bottom of the crate has puddles), she's practically foaming from the mouth, and you can tell that she's been standing up the whole time. She goes into the crate willingly and seems okay until we leave. Im not sure what happened to set this off, but its pretty much every time that we leave her in there for any period of time. Even if its only 10 minutes. Im assuming that she's having seperation anxiety of some sort and Im not sure what to do about it. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions on how to help her?

There are lots of posts here on separation anxiety. If you do a search you will find lots of information.

Has anything changed in the way you do things. Do you make a fuss over her before you go and when you come home. SA is often caused by the dog trying to take on too much responsibility. It important that you be the leader of the pack so that the dog doesn't try and take on that role. One way to do that is to practice NILIF (Nothing in LIfe is Free). You need to have you dog work for everything. She needs to sit or do something everytime you do something for her. Like feeding her, letting her outside , etc. You could also try giving her something to keep her busy when in her crate. Life a stuffed Kong.

Good Luck!

I don’t know much about separation anxiety but my moms Chihuahua drools like crazy when she’s nervous. I mean it’s like a faucet. Streams of drool coming out of her mouth, landing in puddles. Never seen a dog do that before.

I really feel for you. I've gone through this with Baxter, and I tried not making a fuss, etc... nothing worked. The crated was drenched and he howled as soon as he was put in there- this was from day one. I finally had to stop crating him when I leave, and although he is better, he still cries when I walk out the door.( even if my daughter is in the house) So I guess you need to know if it is Crate anxiety or Separation Anxiety. Yours doesnt sound like Crate Anxiety since you have crated him before this started happening. Not being in the crate has been helpful for Baxter, and after going from window to window for about 30-45 min, he finally calms down. He still cries a little, but I feel better. I video tape him while I am gone to see his progress. I was worried about destruction with 2 of them loose, but I close all the doors I can, and pray. They play a little but mostly sleep.Good luck

Living room + toys + familiar voices + bed !!!!

Hello there, well a left Aramis in the living room, with his toys, a blanket and a pillow, also with fresh eater and food, and i allways leave the TV on, so he can hear the voices, so far he is behaving allright (one time he reaped my magazines, but one time only), with 6 moths he is ok, i don't know how he is gonna be in the next 6 month, but for now the toys, the voices, and his bed are doing the trick...
It also helps if you walk him before he is left alone.
