What can you do for true separation anxiety rather that crating issues? Hurricane is fine with his crate, at night or anytime we are home and he can see us. If we step out of the room or leave, he goes nuts. He will shred anything in his crate, and dig at the floor until he cuts himself and bleeds, usually not very badly, but still. If we leave him loose, he will pee and poo everywhere (and it isn't a houstraining thing, he is rock solid otherwise) and scratch at the door we left from until he ruins the door or makes himself bleed, again. He is always provided with plenty of mental stimulation/toys when he is alone. I have noticed he is slightly less frantic when he has had a good exercise session just before we leave, but taking him for a long walk or having a wrestling match just before going out isn't always an option. Any ideas?
