Duster is going to be one in January. She usually stays in her crate when she is home alone. We've tried leaving her out a couple of times and she gets destructive. We left her in the living room once and she tore apart magazines and paper. She had anything and everything everywhere. We tried leaving her out upstairs in our bedroom with everything put away, and she found a candle and shredded it to pieces and had picture frames all over the floor. Two of the times we left her out she actually went pee on our bed. I'm not sure if she is still being a puppy and being mischevious, or if she has some sort of anxiety being alone. Every since she was a puppy she has gone everywhere with me and my boyfriend. The only place she doesn't go is to work. I'm just wondering if she is worried we aren't coming back or is mad at us for leaving her alone??? Has anyone else gone through this? I wish we could leave her out of her crate when we are gone. Help.

More than likely she's mad that you didn't take her, she's out of her element by not being in her crate, and she is bored. When they are in their crate, they are in their den. That's her space and hers alone. Some dogs either aren't ready for the responsibility of being left out, or aren't mature enough to be left out(What can I chew on?). So, when she is left out, she is probably looking at the place with a new perspective(Mom left me out to chew on anything I want). If she does well in her crate when you go away(no crying, or tearing up anything in the crate) then I would go with the above said things. If she does the latter mentioned things, that is probably more so SA. Apollo is almost 2.5 and I have tried leaving him out of the crate because he is so good, but it makes him have a guilt complex, like he might screw up and he himself would not like that. We also tried letting him stay out at night, and he bed hopped the whole time. He loves to go to his crate, it is where no one will bother him, and he gets to sleep on his comfy bed. Rocky on the other hand I will probably never give him the opportunity to stay out of his crate, he would eat everything. Hopefully this helped some.
