Bella is 6 years old and over weight. When are boxers considered a senior dog? Should I put her on weight management or senior food? She doesnt overeat or get snacks but twice a day and has no other health issues or symptoms. She also goes for daily walks and has an acre of land to roam freely on with her brother, so I'm guessing her food is too much for her. Thanks in advance!!

What do you feed? Really weight management and senior foods IMO are worthless and typically full of extra carbs and fillers. My girl at 5 years old was 82 pounds when she should be 65 so we stopped ALL treats and reduced her daily food intake by 1/3 cup and replaced that 1/3 cup with 1/3 cup of either no salt added canned green beans or frozen green beans and I got her from 82 pounds to 64.3 pounds in 6 months without changing anything but her diet (and she's NO exercise because of her degenerative knee condition).

I personally feed Canidae. But I would recommend a good quality food and reducing the amount she eats.

I wouldn't use either. Less food and more exercise. You can try adding green beans to her dinner. It will help her feel full, without adding many calories. If she is overweight she is over eating. Cut back her food. :)

I agree with the other folks that posted. I've looked at the ingrediants for the weight management and senior foods and they are just full of fillers. I'd cut back on the amount of food she gets or make sure you are feeding her a premium dog food.

For a while Sable was on a food for less active dogs and she got up to 75 lbs. We stopped using that food and got her on a better regular dog food and in 18 months time she down to 57 lbs which is ideal for her and I still feed her the same amount of food.

You have to really read the labels.

I've got a similar problem with my Lucy. She is seven and we are trying to slim her down. I recently switched her to EVO (low fat). She is doing great on it. Instead of treats I am putting part of her morning feeding in her kong with a tiny spot of peanut butter to hold it in there. We recently got a puppy, so she is getting plenty more excercise. I first tried a weight management dog food and she was so hungry she got into the garbage, which she hasn't done for years. Good luck with your Bella. Hopefully we will both have slimmer happier healthier pups soon.
