Senior Boxer at Humane Society in Pittsburgh, PA

Boxer rescue
I e-mailed three of the Boxer rescues that are closest to me about a Boxer mix in the shelter where I volunteer, and didn't get a reply from any of them. :(
I wonder if the Boxer is becoming overbred due to its popularity, and the rescues just can't keep up with the demand. That is what has happened to the poor Labrador Retriever. We get Labs and Lab mixes in constantly. The pups go like hotcakes, but the adults generate very little interest.

I can tell you this is absolutely the case! The Boxer Rescue that I volunteer with here is so completely full to capacity with Boxers, rarely do they have the time or space to help out a Boxer mix. It's very unfortunate, and all we can do is help save one Boxer at a time, while continuing to educate people on the consequences of irresponsible breeding. At times it seems like quite an uphill battle

I am interested in looking into fostering a boxer. I would love to help out the older one you are speaking of at the shelter in PA. Does anyone know how to get involved w/ fostering w/ Boxer rescue? Any help or info would be appreciated!!

You simply need to contact your local Boxer Rescue and tell them you would love to volunteer and that you are more than willing to foster. They typically have a very strong need for foster volunteers, so I imagine they will welcome you with open arms.

Completely Boxer Crazy
I have held off replying to this thread because my response may not help this boy.
I know that the local rescue has been contacted about this boy. His picture is deceiving. They are not certain that he is a purebred. They have reason to believe that he may be a mix. The local rescues do not take mixes.
Also, we had called about possibly taking him in. He is a senior and older dogs are hard to place. We thought that he could live out his years here but we were informed that he is not always good with other dogs.
He needs to be an only dog. He has not had any people issues.
We keep our fingers crossed that some nice and healthy elderly couple adopts him.
