My Dog monday is going on 11 years old and has been having some Seizures little closer then normal. have an appointment for monday morning.

Now shes loosing her bladder and letting out a howl when having them... they last up to a maxium of 30 seconds. may vomit after having a seizure but then she back to the sam old dog. (2 seizures in a matter of 2 days.)

now what iam wondering is does the medcations the vet has mentioned in the past going to stop them or just keep them a little further apart ?

Is your dog on seizure medicine already? It isn't always possible to stop them, but you dog would be better off is didn't have so many.

My Susie takes Potassium Bromide for her seizures and she has been on it for quite a while now, nearly a year. Since taking it she has suffered only a couple of seizures (she was having them several times a day) and they were extremely mild and short-lived. So, in my experience the medication has helped not only to stop the seizures (although not completely), but has helped to lessen the severity of those she does have.

Good luck.

Hi Rob,
Sorry to hear about your girl's increase in seizure activity. I have a senior fellow (just turned 13 today) and although he has had mild sporadic seizures his entire life, once he hit age 12, they increased dramatically and was finally but on meds to control them. They have not stop and we have spent a year adjusting the doses to control them and as Dan has already said they have not stopped completely but are certainly much fewer and far between. My vet said that unfortunately, seizures do increase with age, and the howl and loss of bladder control and even the vomiting are common with them...Goliath has experienced all of these things during a seizure, but not all the time and they have lessened so much since he started the meds....it really has helped and I would certainly encourage you to work with your vet to find the right dose and drug to help control them...I think you will see a dramatic improvement. Good Luck and keep us posted and feel free to PM me if I can help at all. djk

I am sorry to hear about the problems you are having with seizures. I have never owned a dog that suffered from seizures but a friend of mine had a bull mastiff that had severe seizures. I did alot of research for him and found a study on "ocular compression" . This is simply applying pressure to the eyes of your dog while he/she is having a seizure. By doing this it releases something in the brain which shortens the seizure and makes recovery time faster. Here is a link with tons of info if you wish to read up on it. I hope everything works out.
