Brain tumors are quite common in boxers. We lost our 1st 2 boxers to brain tumors. Our first boxer went blind one day. Steroids returned his sight but 2 weeks later he started having seizures and went into respiratory arrest adn we had to let him go.

Our 2nd boxer started having seizures....getting more and more frequent over a months time, progressing to the point that he was dizzy and confused and having potty accidents in the house and violent outbursts. We took him to a neurologist who confirmed it was a brain tumor and since we had 2 small children and the area of the brain the tumor was in was causing him to have aggressive episodes, we were urged to let him go sooner rather than later. We took him to our regular vet the next day to let him go in peace.

It is very difficult to watch your dog turn into a dog you don't even recognize. The first question the neuro asked us was 'Is THIS your dog?" and No, he wasn't the dog we had known for 9 years. I knew he was in trouble when he showed zero reaction to his favorite toy, the one we had to keep put away because just the sight of it sent him jumping and spinning like a fool. I'm sorry you are dealing with this!!

I am so sorry to hear about Harley. We lost one of our boxers last year to a brain tumor. He was approximately 9 years old. Not sure because he was a rescue. It started with him pacing around the house. He wouldn't lay down, he would just walk around. Then he started walking into corners and places he couldn't get out of. About a week later he started having seizures. Put him on meds that would make him ok for a while but he couldn't live on those. He got worse, fast. We had to put him down to stop his suffering. It was heartbreaking to watch him go through that. I'm so sorry you are going through something similar. Big hugs to your family and Harley!

The first boxer I feel in love with, Prill, belonged to a guy I was dating. At the age of 8 he started to have seizures. We took him to the veternarian college to be checked out and within a few days he went form bad to worse. They found a brain tumor thru an x-ray, and it was sizable. We had to put him down. They did a necropsy on him, and found a total of 8 tumors. I think my bf wanted comfirmation he was doing the right thing and that is why he agreed to to the necropsy. Even tho all of us were suffering from a broken heart, we knew Prill was not suffering which made our pain a bit less.

If there is a neurologist in your area, I would at the very least want a phone consult, if not an exam. My heart goes out to you and Harley.

Sending thoughts and prayers your way for Harley & your family....

My Tess started having seizures when she was about 11. She was put on phenobarbitol & the seizures were few and far between. Since she was having far more good days than bad, we spent as much time with her as possible, knowing that her days were numbered considering her age. She celebrated her 12th birthday, still more good days than bad until a couple of months later when the seizures came more frequently and required more phenobarb to control them. One morning, she started having one right after the other, so I rushed her to the vet....she started to show improvement on fluids and other meds, but suddenly took a serious turn and was off to the bridge angelicon ....Best guess was a brain tumor, though I didn't feel it was necessary to disrupt her peace in passing to find out, as the cause really wasn't important to me given she was nearly 12 1/2.
