Hi Jean,
Thank you so much for the info on seizures. The vet so far has run an ecg, blood panel, and too many other big words to numerous to mention. After all that he still wants to run a liver function test which will cost another large sum of money, not that money is the issue but we have a baby on the way and things are a little tight. I'm considering seeing another a vet. I love my dog dearly and would do anything for her but sometimes you've got to wonder what their priorities are : the animal or the money. I will definately keep you posted on how she makes out with all this. Thanks again

Lester

Hi lester
I am not sure what all a liver function entails, Buddy was checked through bloodwork for protein in his liver, and the test cost us 48.00 dollars Canadian. The reason for this is to see if the protein levels are too high. Appearantly too high of protein in the liver will cause seizures. I was told should this be the case it would be just a matter of diet to control his seizures. It wasn't the case for him, so we continued with the phenobarb with success. For sure a second opinion is great if you are not comfortable with what your vet is doing. Should you go that route then request all test results from your vet so that testing does not have to be repeated. I ran into a bit of a disagreement with my vet over getting x-rays and test results until I reminded him I paid for them they belonged to Buddy not him. A good source for you might be a teaching clinic. Do you live near a University that has a small animal clinic? I understand the cost factor involved and your situation with a new baby on the way.
Good luck and keep me posted. I will be thinking of you and wishing you all the best.
