Hello. I'm a new member. My sweet 10 year old Boxer, Jessica Tiger, had a seizure early this morning. She began coughing and hacking (as she often does) but then I heard her slam against the wall and saw that she was having a seizure. She was up against the wall and was very rigid. I went over and put my arms around her and just held her and talked to her and shortly thereafter she relaxed. Took her outside and she bounded around like a puppy. I have seen this one other time, last June. I'm at work all day so I have no idea whether she has these all the time and I just don't know about it, or if these are the only two she has had. I guess there is no way to know. I'm taking her to a big facility with all kinds of equipment on Monday. Anyone know what I could be up against here? Thanks very much to everyone. V

PS - She was to go in Tuesday to have several bumps removed, but I've pushed that back a week. Poor girl.

I don't have any advice to offer you, but I would get her to the vet ASAP and have them run a check to see what is wrong. This is a situation where you don't know how long and how often it has been happenning, so you don't really want to take any chances. If possible, try and still take her to the vet Tuesday, if you can't, just watch her real carefully.

I hope everything is okay! ;)

that happened to cinnamon once when she was a little over 10 weeks old. She didnt have anything to fall against like a wall though and she ended up on the gound on her back and couldnt move. it was really scary..we rushed her back to the vet and it turns out she had an allergic reaction to her booster shot she got earleir in the day.

When you take Jessica Tiger into that big facility you mentioned with all the equipment, I would have the doctors check her heart.

Good luck to you,

Bob.

Hmmm...not sure which way to advise here. My Goliath had very sporadic seizures throughout the first 10 years of his life but after age 11 they really became a problem and we had to medicate him with phenobarbitol which worked fairly well for us even though we were constantly having to adjust the doses. The rigidity that you spoke of makes me think seizure. Did she lose bladder control during this incident? Goliath always did with a seizure. However, I can certainly see where Bob is coming from also. The coughing and hacking makes me think heart!! Goliath never coughed before a seizure...as a matter of fact 90% of the time he was sound asleep prior to his episode. I do believe you need to have your girl checked for both heart and seizure activity...better safe than sorry. Good Luck and we'll keep you both in our heart and prayers.

Thanks to everyone for the responses. Jess will have her heart checked and will also probably see a neurologist on Monday. I did notice some wetness on the carpet but I think she was drooling - don't think she lost bladder control. However, it was 5:45 a.m. and I was not at my sharpest. I was too stunned to check for that but if she did it was minimal. Thanks, everyone. I'm looking forward to hearing what the docs have to say. V
