My six y/o boxer had a mild seizure this afternoon! She does not have a history of seizures or any disorders that would cause this that I am aware of. I called my mom, who has a great dane with epilepsy, and her first question was "Was the farmer out spreading anything around today?" (Our property backs up to cornfields.) Well, in fact, he was. The kids, the dogs, and I were out there earlier and waved as he went by on the tractor. I figured that he was tilling before planting, but the truth is I really don't know what he was doing... he was dragging this huge thing with 20+ plastic containers depositing something (liquid) onto the soil.
But part of me would be surprised if that's it. I would think that the other dog, weighing only five pounds, would be more likely to be affected by any chemicals in their enviornment.
Anybody have any opinions on this one? Any rural boxer owners or farmers out there that could maybe give their 2 cents? I'm watching her closely, if she has another one I'll take her to the vet for a blood test.

No experience but I have read that seizures can be brought on by environmental factors. Any chance of finding out what he was putting down out there? At least then you would have a starting point to do some research. Did your pup go down/unconscious? How long was she out? Siezures can vary depending on the cause. How scary...

The seizure was pretty mild, lasted only a few seconds, no loss of control of bodily functions. She never went unconscious.
If it happens again I will take her to the vet for a blood test and track down the farmer, hopefully he will tell me what he was putting down.
This evening I noticed a bar of soap from the tub was missing. The kids claim that they took it and left it in the hallway (god knows why). Now the soap is MIA. It is possible that Bailey ate the bar of soap, thought I couldn't find any crumbs or pieces anywhere and her breath doesn't smell of soap. I know that soap can cause vomiting and /or the runs, but not seizures. I wish I knew what's going on with this dog! Such drama!
