Seattle, WooHoo!

I'm planning a trip out to Seattle in March for a few job interviews. I've never been there, so I'd like to take a look around, but I've never been there, so I'm not sure what I should see/do/eat. I want to go to Pike Place Market, but beyond that . . .

any suggestions?

I had just typed out a whole long paragraph, when Gracie jumped on the keyboard and closed my browser. I'll try this again.

The weather isn't the best in March, but there can be some nice days. Aside from the market, (dog friendly), you might be interested in the Ballard Locks, though at that time of year there won't be much fish running. Also in the Ballard-Greenlake area is the Woodlawn Park Zoo. Greenlake is also nice.

In downtown Seattle, there is the Seattle Center, with the Space Needle (over rated), and the Experience Music Project. There is also the Pacific Science Center, a food court, and the Key Arena, where the Sonics and Storm play.
If you're into biking, there are some of the best bike paths in the country. If you don't bring your own, there are plenty of places to rent on in the U District, that are also just off the Burke-Gilman Trail. You can take it all the way to Marymoor Park, in Redmond. You'll need to checkthat out anyway. Along the trail, a good place to lunch or go at anytime is the Redhook Brewery. Very good beer. They also offer tours. A couple winerys are also in the area.

For the best pizza in Seattle, go to the Northlake Tavern. It's at the north end of Lake Union. Best burgers is an Finn McCool's in the U Distrect. I'm talking to my daughter who lives off Lake Union, she says Mama's Mxican Kitchen on 2nd and Bell. She also said go to Tully's Coffee at the market, not Starbuck's.

Ditto what Jan said Walking the Waterfront is always fun - you could check out the Seattle Aquarium. You could also take a ride on a WA state Ferry - you can walk on for free! EMP, Ballard, Woodland Park Zoo, there are so many things to do around here. Fremont is also a fun walk (look for the Troll under the bridge!) And yes, Mama's Mexican Kitchen is the absolute BEST Have fun while you're here and good luck on your job interviews!

I grew up in Seattle, so I can whole-heartedly recommend it. It's a wonderful place to live, IMO.

Greenlake is also nice.

I agree. Not only is the Space Needle overrated, but ridiculously expensive (and cold and windy on the viewing deck - definitely only worth it on a sunny day). The Seattle Center and Seattle Aquarium are worth it, although it's not a quick stop - more of a 1/2 day adventure.

I'm going to have to disagree on this one. Tully's is fine, certainly nothing wrong with it at all. But if you go to Pike Place, it's worth checking out the 1st Starbucks Store, established 1971. As a Seattlite, I remember Starbucks before it went global.

You could also take a ride on a WA state Ferry

On a nice day, this is an INCREDIBLE way to see Puget Sound. You would probably want to take the Seattle-Bainbridge Island ferry. If you do, you MUST get Ivar's clam chowder while you're waiting for the ferry. It's on Pier 54 at the ferry terminal.


Some really good parks, in addition to Greenlake, are GasWorks park, Golden Gardens park (a really good sunset spot), and Seward park.

Pioneer Square is always a popular downtown attraction.

If you rent a car, checking out Snoqualmie Falls is well worth it, too. Without traffic, it's about 35 minutes east of Seattle on I-90.
