What is your favorite seatbelt/ car harness?

Driving home today, I slammed on the brakes and poor Mac hit the dash board. He is fine but I learned a lesson...

Any tips would be great!

I have two Aspen Canine Seat Belts for Indy and Ava. They are available at Petco and Petsmart. There are also others that are similar and may be as good.

A helpful hint: the instructions show the cars seatbelt passing throught the loop on the canine belt. The problem is that it really pins the dog down and doesn't allow him much movement to get comfortable.

I went to Home Depot and got two stainless steel links that look like the links in a chain. The have a threaded section on one of the sides that can be opened. I opened the link, slid it over the cars shoulder belt, not the lap portion of the belt, and through the loop on the dog's belt. MAKE SURE TO COUPLE THE VEHICLE'S BELT. It allows the dog to stand, sit, or lie down, and shift positions. It allows free vertical movement along the belt, but does not allow forward motion during hard stops.

There is a picture of Indy wearing his in our gallery.

We use the "Easy Rider Car Harness" Got them at Petsmart. I need to get them newer ones as these fit them pretty snug smashicon I used a diff kind before cant remember the brand but those looked very uncomfy on my doggiez so we switched to these.

"Easy Rider Car Harness" here too. There are a lot of them out there and a lot of them have more cushion than the one we have, but I have a sewing machine and used an old bed that she had to make a cover for Kiki's and it's softer on her chest area.

here is a link that gave me the idea for more chest comfort...because her chest area was always red when we got home.

Never leave home without it...it's always in my car with the seat covers...

I am an "Easy Rider" user also. I got it for the trip home on Christmas Eve. It was great because I have a chest belt in the middle of my back seat instead of just the lap belt. Inde could still stay in the middle of the seat instead of just to one side. One word of caution - Inde is very calm in the car, but it is very easy for them to get their legs caught up in the belt when they turn around. If you have an active rider, there may be a better belt.

I do completely believe in seat belt harnesses for all dogs. I have friends that are firefighters and they also suggest some sort of restraint. They say that dogs that are loose pose a threat to themselves and the driver if they are in an accident. Also, if you were seriously hurt and your baby was aggressive to the people trying to help you, they are going to let the dog go. I can't think of anything worse in this world.

we have 2 different kinds, the Aspen pet which allows a little more movement than our Four Paws but i think the four paws is more secure. Thomas Liggin's suggestion of using a clip may allow for a little more room.

I bought them both at PetCo

Yes I agree that all dogs should have some sort of restraint while in vehicles. I just bought two of them today from PetEdge. It gives the dogs a little room to move around and it has a great price for it. I need to keep my babies safe especially in this snowy weather. Thanks for all the tips...

The quick link shown in the C.A.R.E. appears to be the same stainless steel link that I got from home depot. As a word of caution, there are links used for keys, usually made of anodized, colored aluminum that have a side that pivots open and closes by a tooth on one section that meshes with a receiving notch on the other section. I would not trust these to withstand the forces an impact would place on them. The quick link threads together, and the webbing would part before the link gives way.
