Scratching under the eye until it bleeds

On our walk just now,Bridget was stopping every few minutes to stratch her face. When we got home I noticed she was bleeding from the fold under her eye.
Is this a typical place for allergies to be? What should I put on it? I just washed it with cold water, thinking I didn't want anything to go into her eye such as hydrogen peroxide.
Thanks for any info you have..my vet is closed until tomorrow.

Hi, my boxer does the same thing. He constantly rubs his face and scratches at his eyes and lips. The vet told me it was allergies but i haven't figured out if it is a seasonal allergy or a specific allergy to something he eats or what. At first they thought it could be because he ate out of a plastic bowl but I changed the bowl and he is still scratching!
