My wife just got a new car with cloth upholstery. Our 4 month old puppy is obsessed with scratching and digging on the car seat. When we put something like a blanket over the seat, he still scrtaches and digs to get under it. He has also started to do this on the carpet in the house periodically.

Any suggestions?

In the house, no problem - just ell him 'no' and redirect his attention to something else (a toy, a game, whatever).

In the car, it is rather more difficult to redirect him if you're moving. You could practice in your driveway, of course ;) Personally, I would be inclined to eithr crate him in the car, or get him a harness so that you can seatbelt him in. Just as for a human child, it is much safer for him (and you) - and would have additional benefit of making it rather awkward for him to be trying to dig your upholstery ;)

He does wear a seatbelt harness when in the car. However, there is enough room for him to get his head down to the seat and for him to dig/scratch. The interesting thing is he does not do this in my car that has leather upholstery.

ugh... one of my dogs constantly digs on our leather sofa and lately, he tries to dig when he is on our bed... i'm just waiting for the moment when he rips right through the sheets

A friend of mine had this same problem. Turns out it was a missing biscuit! Once the biscuit was found, (per my suggestion) the digging stopped but the couch had to be replaced.

LOL...Cami...That sounds like Chloe. If there is a kibble laying around she will destroy anything to get to it. If she whines I know she is either after food or a toy. As far as the car is concerned, I always crate both of my boxers. I just feel its safer for them and my family. I have let them ride a copule of time out of the crate and I find myself paying to much attention to them and not the road. Hmmmm....I sound like a cell phone driver. Its the crate for my wiggle butts.
