In March, Annabelle was scratched in the eye by a cat. It tore her cornea. We took her to the vet and she was given eye drops and antibiotics. Her eye is healed now but there is still a little white spot where she was scratched. Has anyone else's dog gotten scratched in the eye?

Lennox was scratched in the eye 2 weeks ago by our cat. There was a strange dog around and Lennox did not figure it out that the cat did not want to play.

Luckily, Her cornea was spared, and the cat tore the nicititanus (3rd eyelid). It would not heal back together so the vet snipped it. It was kind of like a hangnail. Anyways her eye looks fine and unless you look realy close into her eye you can't even tell anything happened. Her 3rd eyelid is a little white where it used to be dark. All the vet told us was that she was lucky her cornea did not get scratched. So unfortunately a scratched cornea I have no info on.

Does Annabelle seem affected by it? The only thing Lennos had was a puffy eye after they cut it off, Otherwise she was healed within days (2).

injured cornea

Hi, I just went through a major eye injury with my 8 yr. old Nuker. We don't know how she injured it but the vet said perhaps some caustic chemical dripped into her eye (?) or else she could have scratched it on any of a million things. We did antibiotics for a few days but my vet said Boxers notoriously have a difficult time healing eye injuries. After a couple of days he did a procedure on her eye that involved 'scoring' (in kind of a criss-cross pattern) the whole cornea to encourage cell growth.

Well, this procedure worked very well as the cells grew back quickly - although she had to wear the hilarious (for me) and scary/embarassing (for her) cone around her face when not supervised.

Unfortunately, somehow all the trauma to the eye caused an additional issue in the lower quadrant of her eye - the blood vessels all got swollen and that healed area of the cornea and other part of eye (don't remember correct anatomic words) looked TERRIBLE! The vet was really worried and I totally thought she would lose her beautiful brown eye. To add to the stress I had to go out of town for 5 days on a business trip. Long story short (sorry rambling on) - her combination antibiotics and steriod drops cured whatever was wrong (saving me $$$ for veterinary ophthamologist). And, she is all better now!!! (possible loss of vision in 10- 20% of her lower eye)

Advice to others: Find a vet you TRUST, and if there is any kind of eye problem, get it seen right away!

Sayde got scratched in they eye by our cat too. They cave me the same thing and she had a white spot in her eye for about 2 weeks and it went away. I got rid of the cat when I got this puppy because I didnt want the same thing to happen to Lexus. Ramses got along fine with the cat, but Lexus couldn't help but chase her around.

eye scratcg

I am going through treatment as we speak concerning my boxer's eye scratch. They are notorious for having eyes that do not heal. I went through 2 months of eye drop therapy all over a scratch that go bigger and did not heal. Eventually I had to have him undergo a keratomy that promotes new cell growth through the bad tissue in his eye. He is doing well now. Will start steroid drops next week. Please be cautious and check this out.
