scabs on tips of ears?

Celia, my boxer girl, has a problem with recurring scabs on the tips of her ears. This has been happening since she was a small puppy, and I used to think it was somehow the crate cutting her, but now she is not crated and it still happens. Her ears are natural, not cropped. The scabs will bleed at times, and cause a nuisance, but otherwise, they don't bother her.

Anyone else have this issue, or know what to do about it?

thanks!

My boy has had that continuously throughout the years. Let me guess, when your girl does her "body shakes" you get blood splatters up you walls?! One year both of his tips were bad & the tumb-bandaids that I was using previously were not working. I brought Jacob to the vet and he gave us a spray. It helps the blood to coagulate and acts as a glue to keep the scab attached. I wish I could remember what it's called. I think I still have it at home, I'll have to check the name, though I'm sure that if you contact your vet they'll know what it's called. His tips were cleared up in no time.

This happens to Dee Dee too. I think if I leave her collar on with the tags, the tags whack her ears when she shakes her head? I find keeping the cut moist with an antibiotic ointment helps with the healing. If it dries out, it is a never-ending cycle of scabbing and reopening.

Are there anyother symptoms? My 8 year old female boxer has today been diagnosed with Leishmaniasis (a disease contracted thru sand flies). The vet recognised 3 symptons: loss of weight, long claws and skin problems (she has small growths on her ears). I hope in your case it's not that serious :-(

If your dog is outside a lot it could be flys, or some other sort of bug. I've seen that a lot on barn dogs in the summer.
