I remember Joe on Petfinders also. I talked with my partner about him and we contacted the local rescue to see if they had room to bring him in. If they didn't we were going to see about making room for him. There was just something about him, other than being a check boy, that just drew you to him. Glad that he was adopted and that you adopted him, or should I say he adopted you. You felt his pull also, love at first sight does happen. One thing that you can get to make Joe healthier fast is Canine Red Cell, we use it on the emanciated dogs that come in or nursing mothers that are under nourished. It sure helps, my vets are recommending it now after see what it did for one boxer boy that was over 45 lbs underweight and they wanted to do a blood transfusion. You can pick it up at most farm stores, or some pet stores, I know that most farm stores can order it, and it is not expensive.

You did a wonderful thing for Joe. I will be praying that everything works out for him at the vet's office Saturday. He is a real cutie.

I WAS feeding him rice and chicken with 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt on top. And his stools got better and I was pouring some warm chicken broth (from boiled chicken) over the kibble and he WAS eating that throughtout the day. He STOPPED eating altogether yesterday after breakfast...he wouldn't touch dinner and is TOTALLY uninterested in food AT ALL. Even good dog treats!!! His attitude is fine, he seems to have energy, but that won't last long if he doesn't eat. The vet appointment is this Saturday at 10am...HELP!

As far as the 'Canine Red Cell'. I'm in the city...no farm stores here, can you get online, can the vet order it???

If he has stopped eating completely you might want to get him to the vet sooner than Saturday in case there is anyting going on. But it could also be stress as he is going through a very confusing period in his life but the fact that he was eating and now is not makes me think its not stress.

Can you vet fit you in sooner ?

I had originally had a 'later' (next Tuesday) vet appointment and bumped it up to the earliest available because i'm concerned about his eye being irritated and of course his weight.

He was so skinny to begin with that I am VERY concerned about his lack of interest in food. I'm going to try a can of tuna (it's smelly) and see if he'll eat that way. If he's sick and can't smell...wouldn't that make him lose his appetite? I dunno. Saturday can't get here soon enough...if he doesn't eat this evening i will boil up another batch of chicken and rice. Although i'm not really trying to get him 'addicted' to my cooking. I am hoping i haven't spoiled him rotten and that's why he's not eating the 'enhanced' kibble. But he WAS eating it...with the broth. He wouldn't even eat the yogurt off the top. Just looked at me putting it in there and walked away.

Hope the canned tuna works. Pete loves it or canned salmon. Another good one to really whet the appetite is boiled chicken livers. Cook them for about 30 minutes, drain and cool. They mash easily. The aroma to both Pete and Pinky the cat is just too much. Pinky has stolen them while draining. And they are so rich in protein. Also, Hills SD A/D available at the vets would be good to have on hand. It is a liver pate for both dogs and cats and I've used it for both when they are not interested in food. Usually works.

Hope your boy is just being picky and eats soon. Keep us posted.

HOORAY for you and HOORAY HOORAY for Joe! Your kindness will be repaid ten-fold. Them boxers are a sensitive type so hopefully he's just going thru some adjustment period.

God Bless you for letting him adopt you!
