You did the same thing I would have. Like others have said I wouldnt worry about the cops. Congrads and good luck, they are like pringles, once you pop you just cant stop. hehe

That is just so sad. Why do people have dogs if they're not going to take care of them? It just doesn't make sense to me. Thank god you rescued him-it sounds like he was so bad he would have been dead soon if he'd been left in that yard too much longer. Poor baby! At least now he'll know the love and companionship that he should have known all along. Bless you for taking the sweet little guy in! I wouldn't worry too much about the cops. If the previous owners didn't care enough to even feed him or spend time with him then I doubt they would care enough to call the cops.

Thank you all for the very nice comments. I appreciate them but that is not why I posted this story. I was reading about the tragic story of the boxer with his mouth wired shut and wanted to relate a story of cruelty in peoples back yards.

BTW, the condition of Sammy has been well documented with photos and the vet. (He thinks he was a stray). If they gave a damn and I got in trouble I sure wouldn't go down alone!

Also to those who said 2 dogs is better than 1 dog, I couldn't agree more. Sammy has been a joy to our house already!

it was so great of you to save this precious baby.
i had a neighbor who left her 15 year old sringer spaniel out for most of his life. poor dog, well she had a barn it could get into but this winter some nights the temp was -25 degrees below 0!! The dog froze to death :(
