Well Sadi was hit by a pickup the other day but she is going to be just fine. Got a cut lip and a little scratch on her hind leg but the vet looked her over and said she is good to go. Now for my venting!
I was taking Sadi out with me to cut firewood and stopped at the convenience store to get a drink. Well when I opened up the door to get in the vehicle she darted out for some reason. I kept calling her to "come" and she would not listen. Kept running up to me then running off as I would get closer. She has not done this in a long time! I don't know if she just decided to let the teenager attitude out or what. Anyway here comes the part that made the sailor in me come out!
I was trying to catch her when an elderly couple left the store and started driving out and Sadi started to follow them. They would slow down and Sadi would stop then start running with them when they started to drive again. They slowed down again and I thought I could catch up to them and catch her but the couple drove off and got out onto the highway. Thats when Sadi got in front of them and started to run. Next thing I knew the engine revved up and the tires made two quick screeches and the old man ran her down! Sadi ran out from underneath the pickup and I called her to "come" and she ran right to me. After looking her over to see there was no visible damage I got in my vehicle and chased that couple down. I proceeded to speak in the sailor tongue to the old man and he tried to deny he ran over any dog. Then I told him I watched him and saw how he purposefully ran her over and he said he did not do it purposefully. I then explained to him where I was standing and what I saw and he changed his tune to well you should keep better track of your dog. I was so furious by this time and I said if I ever see him do such a thing again I will turn him in for some sort of animal abuse charges.
Ugh! whats wrong with people!! Anyway, I am just venting. This is definitely not one of my proudest moments in life. I am a very respectful person, especially when it comes to my elders. But this I thought was just wrong. I feel that elderly or not, if you want to be respected then you must be respectful. I live in a very small community and have seen these people before. The guy has always been one of those grumpy types. So I figure this kind of behavior must be part of his nature. And yes, they are among the towns biggest gossip hounds so I am sure to get some dirty looks as time progresses. "sigh" Oh Well.
Thanks for listening, and yes Sadi has betrayed my trust and will now be under ball and chain at all times unless we are out in the open range where there is no danger. And I do understand that I was at fault for not doing so in the first place. She just gained my trust because she never jumps out of the vehicle unless I call her to do so. Lesson learned and thank goodness we both get a second chance.
