HELP!

I recently moved into a new home. I have a 10mo. Boxer. I have noticed that one of my neighbors has two Boxers. They are kept in a small fenced in yard apx. 30' by 50'. Not once have I seen them outside of the fenced in yard! They go out in the morning and arn't brought in untill at least 8pm. They are seem very agressive and constantly barking and lunging at the fence when someone walks by. Their life consists of being outside in the cold or heat, alone with almost no human interaction. They never leave their pen. I am very upset at the lack of attention and exercise they get. I wish there were a way to help socialize these animals and show them some love; they are very cute! Ages? 2 and 4 ?. With the cold weather we now experience (evenings down in the upper 30s ) I can not help but feel sorry for these dogs. Anyone seen or knows of similar circumstances? What can I do to help put me at ease. I have thought about offering to take them for walks and letting them play with my Boxer. I am just worried that they will not take a liking to any other males! I would never put my pup. in any situation where I know he could be harmed.

Sad story....looking for a happy ending!

Ben,

That is a sad story and even worse it's not that unusual. :(

Do those poor babies have shelter and water outside? If not, contact the local animal control organization and voice your concern. If there is shelter & water, there probably isn't a lot you can do through animal control. At least they are sleeping in the house.

The best approach may be to educate your neighbor. If they have a computer, tell them about BoxerWorld. They can really get an education here!! Talk to them about socializing, obedience classes, the need for human contact, etc. Invite the neighbors & their boxers to take walks with you & your boy.

Since they seem to be agressive, I'm don't think you should try to walk them. You would be responsible for anything that might happen. I also don't think letting them and your pup play is a good idea either.

I'm sure others will have more suggestions and ideas that might help. I hope you will be able to find a way to help them.

Please keep us updated.

Good Luck!

Moving the thread from the chit chat forum (where we should not see boxer related threads in fact) to the boxer ring.

Situation

I don't know if it might be that these boxers are as bad off as it seems. My boxers are outside while I am at work on nice days. They refuse to come inside in fact. I would hate it if people thought I was miss treating them. I am actually trying to keep them where they can play together instead of being locked up all day. But they have plenty of water and do NOT stay out in bad weather. I also have a privacy fence so I know that they can't get out and no one can hurt them. Do your neighbors have a regular fence or a privacy fence?

Hmmm...this sounds familiar....deja vu?

I have the same situation next door to me, but its a bit worse. The idiots who moved in about 8-9 months ago have 5 Rottweilers that they keep outside ALL the time. They too are aggressive, and lunge and bark at every single thing that goes past their house (car, person, leaf). They never come inside the house...EVER. Not in the rain, sleet, snow, freezing cold temperatures, blazing hot sun....

I've called the SPCA so many times, I've lost count. See, they have 2 doghouses....and five dogs. I keep calling the SPCA and telling them this, but they don't seem to care because the situation has not changed. I can only imagine what's going to happen when it gets below freezing here (which won't be long).

Sorry I can't be of any help...I've run out of answers myself. :(

Very sad.

I just wanted to say thanks for your concern for these two boxers. Also, Karen1's advice is right on the money. I totally agree. Try and educate and befriend your neighbors. You really don't know all their circumstances, so it would behoove you to learn more about them and perhaps you can help them by walking the dogs with them, as Karen suggested. Excellent recommendation!

Good luck. And please keep us posted on your progress here. We are all concerned for the welfare of our boxer friends!

Sorry to hear about your neighbors dogs. Its sad that some of us are looking for a good boxer and others have them and dont treat them the way they should be treated. Hopefully telling them about this sight will help. Because it has informed me of a lot of things.
