Runny poop

Daisy has been getting runny poop? She is 14 weeks old & have had her for one week. It just started today & is like soft serve ice cream(sorry TMI). We are feeding her 3 times a day splittling up the suggested amount on the back of the bag. The brand of food is Nitro. I plan on changing to a better brand(after I learned about other brands) but do not want to aggrivate her tummy by changing brands. I was going to give just a little less food. Any other ideas or suggestions? The vet said to wait a few days & if it does not inprove to come in.

Do you mean that the food is Nutro? If so yes I would definitely change brands. You could add some ProZyme and acidophilus to her food and see if that helps the runs. Has she been checked for any intestinal parasites? If not I would have a fecal done on her to rule that out. If that comes back clean then I would feed her a bit less (or add an additional meal so you're feeding less at each meal instead) and add either some ProZyme and/or acidophilus and see if that helps.

Personally I disagree. I know many whose dogs had the runs BECAUSE of Nutro and it didn't stop UNTIL they changed, so just food for thought. IMO it probably wouldn't get worse, so it's worth a shot, but that's JMO.

Acidophilus is in the vitamin section at any store. ProZyme I get online, not sure where it is sold in stores, I buy it on amazon. ProZyme gives you dosing it's 1/4 tsp per 1 cup of food, acidophilus I give one capsule with each meal and I feed twice a day.

I ran into the same problem when Solo was that young. Except he was on Wellness and it was way to rich for his system. It was suggested to put a Tbs or 2 of canned pumpkin. Not the pie filling kind.

Also, you could try feeding boiled chicken and rice. It's a bland diet that might help. When you get solid poo's start adding in kibble a little at a time until completely off the chicken and rice.

It worked for Solo, but in the end a switch of kibble was the only thing that got rid of the runny poo.

I agree with the previous post. If you feed boiled chicken & (I prefer) sweet potatoes it usually firms their poops up pretty quickly (mine usually within a day unless there is something more going on). Once the poop is firm you can them gradually start mixing in a new kibble. That's the best of both worlds! Quick firm poops and a switch to a better food!

dogfoodanalysis.com can help you find a good quality kibble (choose 4 star or better), most of them you will need to visit a specialty shop for (or can order online), but even Petco carries a few of them.

So her poop is getting better. It is soft still but looks like poop instead of a blob. Now I an going to get her a new food. Just got to decide what brand is best.

This is the only place I can think of where you would decribe poop, except maybe a parenting site.
